This was my first ever games console 🥺 I got a pink GameBoy Micro for Christmas in 2006 when I was just 6 years old, I still own it today and I still play it today! It is super tiny but super cute. I love it so much, even though they sell for a lot now I don't ever wanna get rid of it, it will always have a special place in my heart 💗

Thats wild having a micro as your first gameboy. I went from gameboy -> gameboy color -> GBA -> GBA SP. I always wanted a micro but by the time it came out i couldnt really justify buying it since i already had a SP. But I thought it was so cool.

I bought a nintendo 64 years ago at a yard sale for $20. In the box of stuff I found this little gameboy micro. I had no clue that these existed. After seeing how much they sell for I definitely stole it. 15 years later I still use it and the battery still holds a good charge.

I have a childhood memory of my mother trying to get me a gameboy advance for my birthday off of Ebay. She lost the bid at the last moment and that got me down. My dad heard about it and immediately took me to town and got me this Gameboy Micro (the same Famicom one seen here) and a copy of Zelda Link to the past. That little gameboy was such a blast to play.

My church school teachers liked me, and gave me a gameboy micro, i still have to this day. The amount of hours i put into that handheld instantly dwarfed the standard GBA i owned prior to that thanks to it being Rechargeable with a backlight. I loved that it didnt have a hinge either after seeing so many snapped GBSPs in my area. Micro was A flawless design.

Great video. Since I was a little boy I dreamed of having a portable system with loads of retro games on it, and I always admired the form factor, novelty, and ultra sleek design of the Gameboy Micro. A few years ago, what started as an interest in getting one of those tiny arcade machines one day at Target quickly snowballed into finally getting a GB Micro with an Everdrive cart and a personally curated list of NES, GB, GBC, and GBA games. I love this console. Also, it's funny how you mention that the machine wasn't made to cut costs. While that may be true on the consumer side, I remember reading that the screen used for the GB Micro was an existing manufacturer design and not proprietary like Nintendo's other handhelds (at least at the time), and that may have been the deciding factor in even creating the thing.

I ended up finding a black-and-silver one in a Gamestop in a Seattle mall some time before 2010. It's not in the best condition, but the battery is going strong, and the faceplate latches are holding tight.

If the GBA sp is a Honda Pilot then the Micro is closer to the Honda NSX 😉. I agree this thing feels really premium with the medal housing. Guessing Nintendo was inspired by Apple offering different color ipods at the time. I got lucky with my Micro and bought one at a time when most stores were trying to get rid back in late 2006. Still use mine every now and then today and had to replace the battery once so far.

I love my Game Boy Micro. Recently got one after my previous one deteriorated beyond repair. Some may say that the SP has the upper hand due to having backwards compatibility, but it's design seems a little cramped for my big hands. For me the Micro is the best GBA version.

The GB Micro is Nintendo's best handheld console with it's LED lit up start select buttons and chrome trigger keys. If you really like the GB Micro. You will love Anbernic's RG300X. Also, I think the GB Micro is the best handheld ever having the sleekest and classiest design. The RG300X is my most favorite retro handheld console.

I had the same model and got it brand new in box the year it released, but damn, yours is in even better condition than mine! I loved my Micro growing up, but the battery was a nightmare and the One Piece game I got along with was notoriously glitchy. I was fortunate to be the perfect age to grow-up with the o.g. GBA, both SP’s and both the DS and DS Lite and I greatly preferred my Micro for most gaming experiences, although I did mostly just play OP on it. (I was also old enough for both the o.g. Game Boy and Color, but was raised as PlayStation kid during those early years.) Anyway, thanks for the nostalgia-inducing review!

Completely agree with you apart from saying it's not as practical, I wanted something to carry around with me easily to game when I get a moment spare and this is by far the best easy carry portable console around; I got a ez flash for that reason so I don't need to carry tonnes of cartridges around with the added benefit of playing pre gba games to. Just got a nintendo mp3 player to go with it aswel so 2 cartridges with a couple sd cards and the console and I'm golden. Battery life is fine but with a cheap USB cable into my power brick and I could go for days.

It has just SOME of the components for backward compatibility, mainly for sound, because a lot of GBA games use them. It doesn't have ALL components for GB/GBC compatibility, exactly as the DS and DS lite. Flash carts use GB emulators. Yes, the GBA is powerful enough to decently emulate a GBC.

There is a solution to play all Game Boy and Game Boy Color games on a Game Boy Micro: a GBA cartridge-shaped flash cartridge that has a huge library of Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games ported on to one flash cartridge. The GBA cartridge-shaped flash cartridge can also work on a GBA and a GBA SP as well. It makes up for why the Game Boy Micro wasn't fully compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges.
