Fastpacking is by definition running at least some portion of a hike but usually large sections to cover more distance faster. Those packs you've got look pretty cool and that flashlight is the A+ go to choice. I'd never bring a flextail pump, that's like a Dan Becker camp comfort item. Much rather bring a knife instead.

I hate soft flasks but, when fastpacking in the winter, I quickly found out why they’re important. I slipped and fell forward, landing on my chest. I had a hard-sided flask in my shoulder strap and thankfully only bruised a rib really bad. It was still painful. If you’re going to be running with a pack on, make sure nothing stored in front of you is hard or has sharp ends/edges - lesson learned!

Great vid. About the jacket, any NEW jacket with new DWR is gonna be quite waterproof to short downpours even if the fabric itself sucks. Unfortunately in my experience DWR wears off quite fast.

I like that cook system, but couldn't figure out who makes that lid that fits on the canister bottom and holds a lighter. Maybe I missed it on a previous video, but is it something you made, or something that we can buy?

I did a two day gear load out a couple ounces under 6lbs. In the gossamer gear murmur. This weight has my phone and the weight of my fuel canister included. The last day was incredible having to attack a four thousand foot elevation gain with less than eight lbs. On my back made it possible for me to catch the bus from timberline Lodge at the end of my 47 mile hike.

I have the OV skyline 30 and I really like it. I’ve used it on two day hikes and on one of them I did run with it. It was extremely comfortable. I love the vest straps. I don’t know that I’ll ever do multi day trips using it, instead I’m more likely to do longer day hikes that involve some running and longer distance.

You can take the same concepts (light, minimal load) and apply it to just walking on a long summer day, sunrise to sunset, and get in over 30 miles. No running needed.
@IdRatherBeHiking

To cover more distance faster allowing you the ability to do longer hikes in the same amount of time. I fastpack the back half of all my hikes, hike in fastpack out and thats with a full kit + a buttload of camera gear to film videos. Without all the camera gear you can get your setup to be really light and small.
