I know it doesn't have much to do with it, but I had this video recommend after Watcher (the channel of Ryan and Shane from buzzfeed unsolved after they went away from the company) decided to abandon youtube to pursue their own streaming service (at 6$ a month), with the heaviest backlash I've ever seen. I wasn't paying for dropout tv because I couldn't afford it, but I know their content would be so much worth it. The effort they put in everything, the genuineness and the principals of the people working there is truly the best part of the project, and they deserve everything they'll get. On the other hand Watcher's content is "people talk at a table" and "people eat food", excluding ghost files and puppet history, and 6$ for 2-3 videos a month are not worth it. We'll lose the only thing that was great about them: the chemistry between Ryan and Shane. I hope they reconsider. They're not another Dropout.

Dropout is also $6/mo, if you ever decide to do it. I've never even once considered unsubscribing and I've had an acct since 2020. i've also been thinking about this. i wasn't a fan until maybe 2-3 years ago when dropout had already launched, and i wonder if collegehumor/dropout experienced any backlash initially too? because it would've been a big shift most likely. D20 episodes were taken down/moved, gamechanger episodes taken down except for like 3, etc. maybe it's because this all occurred after, what i would argue, was collegehumor/dropout's lowest point (being dropped from their parent company and laying off all their staff) while watcher is arguably hitting its peak. and also dropout puts out 5 videos a week, but i doubt that was the case when they first launched. i don't know. it's very interesting to me. ps. get a friend into dropout and share the account! they also have a "grandfathered price" policy -- if you began your subscription while it was $6 and the price is raised later, you keep your $6 price as long as the same account is active

I understand not being able to afford yet another streaming service, but I heavily disagree with what you've said about Watcher's content. Watcher got me through quarantine, through the subsequent years of struggle, and is still a highlight of my week with their uploads. They put massive amounts of effort and attention into their shows, and the founders all have such similar ideals as Sam and Dropout staff about paying their team fairly and treating them well - which yes, conflicts with the absolute content farm that YT has turned into. I have only high hopes for Watcher's success, and plan to follow them as long as I'm able. My hope is that they will follow Dropout's model of sharing content to YT on a delayed schedule, so that everyone can eventually see it, and/or offering a lower-cost YT membership option to retain the portion of their fanbase that can't afford a sub. But I'm actually so proud of them for wanting to get free of KZitem, as the site is overrun with ads and falling prey to damaging algorithms that make it hard for creators and audiences alike to not burn out. ✌️
