After owning a Philips ambilight TV for six months I can't praise it highly enough, it completely enhances the viewing experience in games and movies. It's safe to say I will only buy a Philips TV from now on chiefly because of this feature. Before buying it I didn't even know such a thing existed and most people in general don't either, if Samsung of LG created this then everyone would know about it. I believe this boils down to MARKETING

At first, ambilight gave me eye fatigue because of the constant change in colour. It also kinda bothered me that the ambilight showed white light in in dark scenes / scenes without color. The trick is to change the settings to "game mode", where dark areas/edges doesn't light up and therefore make much better job "extending" the screen where it needs to. Feels much more natural to the eye and also enhanches the experience.
@FiniteFr
Жыл бұрын
100% the right answer, game mode should be the default, dark scenes should be dark by default, it makes me annoyed that I’m sure people don’t know about this feature and think it’s bad
@GameslordXY
Жыл бұрын
@@FiniteFr The problem with Game mode is that those lights are too dynamic and that might be a problem for someone who is overly photo sensitive. It can be very distracting regardless,which is why I never used it. It can be cool,but NOT sold on Ambilight's game mode. Perhaps that shall change in the future.
@FiniteFr
Жыл бұрын
@@GameslordXY I’ve never thought of the problem, but to be honest I don’t think ambilight would ever suit those people, if it’s too slow, then it wouldn’t suit the scene and it would distract more than anything, those people would be better off setting it to a solid colour and leaving it, but then what’s the point? I watch a lot of WW2 films so the bright flashes from explosions or the dark of a night scene to being suddenly shocked when the screen and my room is lit up in a big orange glow or flashes of tracer fire, it needs to be quick and bright otherwise it wouldnt have the same effect. For me it’s exactly what I want, and I find it dimmer in normal use than the others which I found way way too bright when watching normal content or streaming from my laptop and using google and the like. I never focus on the lights but I notice when I’m using a TV without them, it feels so closed

This is correct. I would also add that you can do this in game, sport and natural mode in the ambilight menu. There is an increase in intensity in that order and personally I like the natural setting

This man is 100% right. Had an ambilight for a while now. Next tv will be an ambilight set. When you turn the function off the tv is a duller affair. Phillips might lack some of the clarity and features of other sets. But nothing compares to the immersion from their set up.

I've had at least one Philips TV in the house since the aurea (Google that and one of the best for it's time). Of late my main tv is the LG oled, far superior screen and importantly software. Where Philips have issues of recent times with software, apps the last to update etc. I.e. Before Disney not being able to play 4k hdr through Philips. Anyway and my point...... For immersion and the key, eye candy. Philips always wins. In the winter months (darker early, cold) you put on the Philips TV and entertainment setup with additional sync lights. Have a eye candy colourful movie or game..... It looks incredible. So to now.... Waiting on black Friday to try and get the Philips oled 77 for the man cave and have another entertainment setup. Not for everyone, but 100 percent for me.

Where do I get a ambilight tv??
@DJordydj
10 ай бұрын
You must go Philips for that, or you can buy an expensive set of gadgets from Philips to turn your actual TV or PC monitor into an ambilight screen. I'd suggest you to get a Philips TV directly, but if your current TV is already good, then get the Hue Syncbox, the Philips bridge and the Hue Play lights to stick against the back of TV. You'd spend 500€ but that way you don't have to buy a new TV. The bad side in this is that the Syncbox can't do 120hz on 4K, only on lower resolutions. But you can still connect 4 HDMI devices to it to sync the lights.

From what I can tell, not by a noticeable amount, obviously I haven’t done rigorous testing, I just play a lot of games on it. If I watch a movie, I want to see the movie and nothing else. Philips can stick their Christmas decoration where I think they should stick it. But there needs to be something for everyone, and flashing lights are very popular in certain parts of the world, and among children. I have tested many Philips prototypes at their European test centre, so I do know what I'm talking about. The basic quality of Philips (TP Vision) screens is mediocre, and that's why they need to add so many gimmicks. It's marketing, nothing else. And Philips are quite good at that. They have a higher profit margin than their competitors. I give them credit for that.

@@i_am_still_human Why is it that so many people around the world can no longer read? What happened to the education system? Please explain. I wrote Philips, not LG. This video is about the ambilight system, regardless of the panel manufacturer. Not every tv under the Philips brand name (manufactured by TPV) uses LG panels, and the electronics so steer the panel output use very brand specific firmware. That's why the end result can still be very different from one manufacturer to the other. For me it's always Sony or Panasonic, any time.
