As someone who thinks (or thought rather) that Deviljho’s theme was rather… boring because of it’s lack of variation just going for the raw fear and discomfort, I’m glad I watched this one. The part where it has a bit of MH3’s theme is indeed in the original version, not just the world theme. I was pretty blown away by how much depth there actually is in what I used to think was a very “one trick pony” song. I still remember my first Deviljho experience in MH3U, fighting Crimson Qurupeco, Qurupeco did the song of his people. Then the first stabs of music started and I was like, what… is… that… My buddy who was very experienced in MH at the time whereas I was just a beginning said, just run, get out of there! My curiosity got the best of me as I wanted to see what had the scary music, then out of nowhere the giant pickle jumped on me and began to eat me and as I yelled for help my friend disappointingly says, I told you to run!

It's abit weird to listen to deviljho's theme without acompanied by it's iconic tiger-like roar in the beginning of the theme, the roar almost felt like the part of the theme to me. I also like how in other powerful monster's theme you can hear some sort of heroism like the theme is telling you that you're about to face an epic battle and is cheering for you. But in deviljho's theme its just full disturbing and dread from start to finish, as if the theme is telling you: "RUN!!! This is fool's errand"

Just for simple clarification, the motif of To One With Life *is* in the original theme! Just like how Alatreon reflects nature via using all the elements, Jho reflects the very disturbing and horrific parts of nature. He truly is a MONSTER, invading any land to simply consume anything he can get his giant mouth on, destroying everything just for his own satisfaction. His armor is called "Esuriant" which simply means greed and hunger, truly this monster is the personification of that deadly little sin. I love Jho, he's super awesome and threatening 💜
@accelerat3447
2 жыл бұрын
He's the kind of monster that makes us say "OH HELL NO DON'T RUIN THIS HUNT FOR ME JHO I'VE FARMED 20 RATHALOSES AND GOT NO PLATES" but if Capcom removes that pickle we'll be like "NOOOO DON'T REMOVE HIM HE RUINS HUNTS TO ADD SOME SPICES TO THE GAMEPLAY, WE LOVE HIM". I really love this love-hate dynamic between Jho and the hunters 🤣
@nightmocha9345

Just gotta point out that its the savage deviljho that gets esuriant sets. Base jho comes with vangis. Given how savage is more prone to consuming everything, and won't take off its eyes from some unfortunate creature, esuriant fits it perfectly.

I always noticed how Deviljho's theme song is very similar to something you'd hear in a horror movie. When you first encounter him as a lowly high rank player in MH3, he invades your quest, you're no longer the hunter in that situation but the hunted instead and all you can do is run and hide, like in a horror movie. Kinda miss that about older games. Now, invading monsters are nuisances at worst, and in Rise they just straight up help you lol. Deviljho doesn't really have a place anymore.

@smileyjojo4913
2 жыл бұрын
@@zjuraeventide8949 Hell yeah I fucking love Bazelgeuse. I think in Rise, Valstrax is meant to serve the invader role, but it's been dumbed down into one attack which really just helps against the target monster. I think the best way of reintroducing an invading monster would be to make it impossible to mount, so you're actually scared of it showing up, instead of "aw sweet free dps." that'd be cool as shit.

Deviljho's theme is kind of a mix of Godzilla's 1957 theme and Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring'. In regards to Godzilla, going to about 37-ish seconds in you'll hear the same 'disturbing cords' . Considering Jo's design was more than likely intentional. With Stravinsky - it kinda picks and chooses throughout all of 'The Rite of Spring' , but the biggest bits can be heard in 'The Augurs of Spring' which has a strong history of disturbing people who first heard it. This is actually similar to the B-52 Bomber who's theme pulls a bit from 'A Night of Bald Mountain' . Intruding monsters sure love their classical music.

It's awesome to watch your videos and really see that the devs didn't simply make cool music for their monsters (In the case of Monster Hunter) or music that just seems to suit them based on appearance, location or a combination of the two, but made music that was tailor-made for a certain monster that tells a story of their own within the fights and can even transition based on the stage of the fight if there's more than one. Good ol' Deviljho, I have fun memories of him randomly busting up quests back when I was still a Tri nooblet. The intro bit of his theme coupled with his roar really just screamed at you to get out of there immediately. It really sells the anticipation the situation is about to take a spin for the worse. Didn't expect you to diss the hell out of him for having no elegance but it's true and therefore hilarious. Gotta say though I prefer the third/fourth Gen version of his theme to the World version; in this one some of the transitions don't feel smooth, like the composer was trying too hard to fancy it up or something. And yes, that bit of Tri's To One With Life has always been there; I always liked that bit for how it reinforces that Jho was absolutely intended to leave one of the most lasting impressions of the game. Do you plan to make a video about any of the Magalas' themes? Between Gore, Shagaru and Chaotic Gore there's a few and I always like to see the differences and similarities between related themes like those.

The deviljho theme in some parts, gives me childhood flashbacks of the Trex part in fantasia. Great video as always! Deviljho theme eats up other monster’s themes literally. The ferocious vibe was conspicuous in Tri version, but World version has more fearful and hopeless vibes. This theme sounds like music of classic disaster movies and your analysis shows that this theme gets the hang of making people uncomfortable. Thank you for this amazing video!!

I've listened to this theme countless times, never noticed the Tri melody in it at all, so subtle yet so obvious, and now that you've pointed it out I can't unhear it. Also since you already covered both the B-52 Bomber and the oversized Pickle (I know you probably have a shit ton of requests to go through but just putting it out there) I think it's only appropriate you cover the Super Saiyan Thunder Monke... less commonly known as Rajang and the Psychopath Murder Chicken Yian Garuga.

When I first heard this theme in MHTri, it was a literal wut moment for me. Because, unlike MHTri, MHWorld introduces the player to Deviljho with a special quest that has a cutscene & everything. In Tri, you just come across Deviljho in a high rank quest without ever knowing about his existence, and that caused him & his theme to put real fear into me for a few months. lol It was even scarier when you had the Tracker skill, where you can see the location of every large monster on the map at all times & you see him spawn far away & B-line straight to the area you are fighting the main quest's monster.
@DaviVasc

That is true! The fact that they don't even introduce him makes the experience of seeing him so freaky haha

Fun Fact 1: Deviljho's eat entire ecosystems, because they're metabolism is so fast that they always feel hungry no matter how much they eat. Fun Fact 2: Deviljho's are highly aggressive against every other big monster, except Elder Dragons. They stay alone for pretty much all their life except for mating. Fun Fact 3: Deviljho's will eat their own tail if they loose it somehow. (most likely through a hunter)

7:07 I really like this part of his theme, I dont know what it is but just the slight uplifting tune right before it goes back to horrifying, it leaves an impression on me more than the rest of his theme, given that its like one calming part where you can take a breath right before your back to running.

I'm really enjoying these videos, and I'd love to see you react to Nergigante or Zorah Magdaros' themes - they're some of my favourites because of the way they make me feel - Nergigante with the feeling that something big is on a rampage, and Zorah's theme somehow making me feel pushed for time as I search for the magma cores. I'd love to see what you think of them!

////EN//// Always find your MH BGM analysis so cool. Because you always mix music theory alongside the music's intention inside the game's context, and show an equal amount of passion for both. Anyway, Jho absolutely does not fight fair, and doesn't want a teeny-tiny snack (the hunter) to mess with his meal. He evolved to to say 'fuck you' to cheap tricks like elemental attacks and high defenses, invades already in progress fights to catch his prey off-guard, and does anything to shoo away nuisances. Just like you said, his Track doesn't follow a classical pattern, since he doesn't have any pride nor chivalry in his fight, and is extremely loud and frightening just like a Kaijuu theme, cuz he wants to scare those he considers weaker. And your short metal cover of his theme was really cool mahaha Hugs from Brazil!
