The high sparrow reminds me Vary's riddle in the second book. “In a room sit three great men, a king, a priest, and a rich man with his gold. Between them stands a sellsword, a little man of common birth and no great mind. Each of the great ones bids him slay the other two. ‘Do it,’ says the king, ‘for I am your lawful ruler.’ ‘Do it,’ says the priest, ‘for I command you in the names of the gods.’ ‘Do it,’ says the rich man, ‘and all this gold shall be yours.’ So tell me - who lives and who dies?” And his answer - Power lies where men believe it lies. No more. No less. In this very room we have a king, a priest and a rich man, but no one holds any real power.

With respect, Jaime Lannister we know from the books would split him in two in this situation, never fearing about death. He's not a man who's level headed when openly challenged. When the Blackfish mocked him, Jaime was glad that he didn't bring a sword, because he'd try to kill him there and then. But what does it matter? He was supposed to be in Riverlands and already turned against Cersei by now, according the books.

He toyed with Ned. Only Sword of the fuckin morning Ser Arthur Fuckin Dayne, Jaime's mentor and idol figure could undoubtedly beat him and Barriston the Bold in his prime would have a chance against him. He's always been a man of ambition even before he gave away his possessions, in the end he still desires power. to change the world. The difference between his old self and his Sparrow persona is that he does seem to want to do better for the people, even if he is machiavellian in his methods, his desire for power isn't for himself, it's for society. Think about it, he wrestled power away from the Cersei, removed her as the power behind the throne. Instead of taking absolute power like anyone else would, he actually gave the King back his authority, and the council was given returned to influence and guide the king. In effect, he removed the currupt Lannister politics that had been destroying the kingdom. He seems content in taking enough power to force change, but not actually taking reigns like a despot. Not saying he's a good man, but rather a reformer hidden behind religious pretexts.
