I love the fact that Dayne is fighting 4 people at the same time and is winning plus has so much control of the fight that he chooses to fight Ned last. Just living up to the legendary status of the greatest swordsman in the realm.

POSSIBLE greatest. Ser Selmy took on a ton of foes in a room that limited his movement while taking wounds and wayyy past his prime. Also a lot of the older best fighters (that we hear from) claim he was the best and they for sure saw Ser Dayne in action too. Either way they're my two picks for sure!

If you're fighting against multiple threats (and there's no element of surprise), you don't target the one who is the hardest to kill. You target the weakest first, so that you can then focus your full attention on the strongest. Of the group fighting Dayne, Ned was probably the most well-trained in combat and most able to defend himself.

Prince raeghar targaryen ordered ser Arthur dayne to make sur no one of the baratheons or the starks get to find his wife lyanna and their son , because baratheons were at war with targaryens and starks were allies to the baratheons ,therefore the son of lyanna and raeghar being the légal heir to the iron trône ,would have been killed by baratheons or starks since they were fighting to get rid of targaryens , the only reason ned didn’t kill the targaryen baby (Jon snow) is because he was also the son of his dying Sister Who begged him to keep the targaryen baby safe and hide his identity

@@nottellingya9887 on the contrary he is the type of men that would do anything to maintain the peace in his realm and his domain,,,,,we have been able to see it many times , even in the beginning of the show When he executed an innocent man Who fled for his life when he came across white walkers,,,, ned knew this man couldn’t do otherwise but stil exécuted him (behead him whith his great valérian sword) because if he let him go and spread this news in winterfell people Will get grazy worried and possibly start à civil war beetween those Who want to fight back and those Who want to flee the city ,,,, another time we see ned kill this innocent young direwolf Who took défense of arya when Geoffrey was buĺlying her,,,,ned knew the direwolf did the right thing , but just because he didnt want to desobey the King and start a rebellion he did kill this pet direwolf ,,,,,,,,so why wouldn’t he kill à litlle boy that just his existence can start another war where his people would be murdered by thousands by the hands of baratheons and lannisters (Who became their allies at this point of time ) ,! This just popped up in my youtube recommendations, and wow, I'm really late to this. I did watch the show and read the (available) books. I agree that the actor does a great job, and even fights like older Ned in the scene, like when Ned fought Jaime in the first season. It's either good direction or good acting, or both, to make it feel like it's the same character.

I always felt like the implication is that the reason the three-eyed raven tried to convince Bran that he couldn't affect the visions is because he had done the same thing, and driven someone mad with it, perhaps even the Mad King.

The actor who portrays the Three-Eyed Raven here had already played as the Professor in "Shutter Island" about ten years earlier. Another 50 years earlier he had played as Antonius Block in Bergman's "The Seventh Seal". He was such a legend... he left us in 2020. RIP Max von Sydow

They’re both changes from the books - Edward maintains “he would not be alive if not for Howland Reed,” and everyone in the North keeps preaching about how Howland Reed and his crannogmen are all “wizards,” and Howland’s daughter Meera uses a clever net trick to snare Bran’s wolf - pretty clear to me that Dayne fell to exactly such a trick, what might otherwise have been a dignified [Stark] death in honorable combat sullied by “the crannogman’s magic trick.”

I’m pretty sure most people would write that off, Ned had not long earlier fought in the trident, & just gone against the best swordsman in Westeros - he probably assumed “I’m just hearing things” or that it had come from the tower - the alternative is to scour the area for the source (which he wouldn’t have found anything regardless) when his sister’s well-being is more a pressing matter

This is a microcosm of the show as a whole: a bunch of well-shot action and plot building that ultimately means absolutely nothing to the narrative. That's about 70% of the show, honestly, and most of seasons 6-8.

@@MrAlepedroza Well they mostly developed the plots in earlier seasons and what was meant to be solved was butchered in idiocy by D&D. But I agree the first 3 seasons the plots were very much aligned with the books and what little path they finished, like with Rob, they did very well . Problem is bringing narative developments to a conclusion is also the big weak point of G.R.R Martin. D&D did not have that much to work on but they always decided for the most moronic solution to the story.

All the scene looks pretty dumb. Plate armor with no hand protection (and huge amount of gaps),, dual wielding two handed swords a lord with ugly leather shirt as his only protection. The thing which triggered me the most was episode where dude spent several seconds with his weapons stuck in the other guy's body and all other guys (supposed to be veteran fighters) just standing there watching.

Book nerd here. I like the attention to detail in this scene. He picks up Ser Arthur Dayne's sword "Dawn" (hence the name Sword of the Morning) and kills him with it. In the books he returns the sword to House Dayne since the most capable warrior of House Dayne has always held "Dawn" which is supposed to have been made from metal extracted from a shooting star.

Dayne called it. Its a historical fact that rebellions lead to "aftershock" rebellions that soon follow the first. That's what he meant by the "wars to come". One dynasty has ruled for thousands of years and with that came stability, even though Baratheon holds the throne that stability is lost and there would be challengers. Wars of succession as we saw

Young Eddard Stark was great in the role. I wasn’t sure about seeing him, but his way of speaking and mannerisms fit Sean Bean’s character perfectly.

Not one bit. It is dissapointing. Knowing Sean Bean as an actor since late 80ies... meh... Coming from a few episodes of Sharpe, this is quite unreal. Yeah, I know GOT and Ned Stark had to fit somehow.

I think the explanation of this scene was better in the books, with there being three of the Kings Guard (Ser's Arthur Dayne, Gerold Hightower and Oswald Whent) rather than two. But still, this is cool too.

Besides, Arthur Dayne wielding two swords is really fucking stupid. Anyone who knows anything about swordfights would know that wielding two longswords is really ineffective and pointless.

Really? Cuz it seemed to me that if the Night King had not been so laser focused on Bran and Jon, he might have noticed the little ninja girl sooner. And the Valyrian steel dagger in her hand. He wouldn't have looked so damn smug in those final seconds had he not believed he was about to kill Bran, his perceived #1 enemy.

@@RGInquisitor In the books Bran sees Ned through one of the Weirwood trees in the Gods Wood at Winterfell (he can only see through the trees-not sure where they got this 'you can walk around everywhere you want when time traveling' bit from), he calls out to his father and Ned looks up, asking "who's there?" as if he just heard the wind whispering to him.. Seven Hells the books are so much better 😖

Long swords are two handed swords. Arming swords are one handed and what he uses look like bastard swords which are hand and a half swords so like a cross between.

The irony is Ned Stark was stabbed from behind while fighting Sir Jamie the same way Sir Arthur was stabbed in his back .. Ned was holding upper hand against Jamie as Sir Arthur did against Ned
