that is a powerful scene. i think Jaime is the most complex character in this story.

George PM I think she would have, Breanne IS the most honorable character besides Ned Stark...it is what drives both of their personalities. Ned kept his honor the ENTIRE time, he jeopardized his Family, his marriage and his life...Breanne strikes me as the same kind of person... I think Jamie knows that when he tells her his story. Jamie Didn't have to stab him in the back, he could have knocked him out or what ever...but instead he put a sword in his back.... I just can't see Brianne or Ned Stark doing that.

@Sassy Monster Honor? Where is the honor in standing by while thousands of innocent people are put to death? *Brienne* of Tarth would not have acted any different then Jaime Lannister did.

Brienne doesn't care at all for honor. The only thing that keeps her going is duty. Theres a big difference, Ned stark is a good representation of honor, while Stannis is probably what represents duty best.

This series have a ton of great scenes for character development, but this one gotta be the top one for sure! Made the world go from despising the guy who sleeps with his sister, to having sympathy for the guy that saved a city but still was found guilty for murder.

Jaime the truest hero in the story. It's far more heroic to have to live with being hated for your most heroic act than loved, isn't it?

So stabbing a king in the back, pushing a little boy from a window and nailing his sister make him a hero? I don't see the logic there.
@pearljammies
7 жыл бұрын
If the king is going to nuke an entire city, yes. Heroes are flawed. Sleeping with his sister is a flaw, but I don't see it as overtly evil, particularly not in this world where it was normal for the Targaryens. I don't really see who he cares for or sleeps with as anyone else's business (outside of the question of legitimacy as ruler). He pushed Bran out the window knowing if Robert found out, he would execute Jaime, Cersei, and their children. It wasn't the most just decision, and it's not one I would have made, but I see it as him choosing what he thought was the lesser evil. What I find fascinating - if you analyze characters by their sigils (there is so much there), male lions (and all cats) are known to kill cubs who have other fathers to protect/promote their own bloodline. We see that in Tywin's treatment of Tyrion as he believes he's a bastard, but we also see it in Jaime in this way.
@azhazel1

You're just justifying his evil actions, it's like justifying someone for robbing another person. Jaime for me will be always a man without honor.
@pearljammies

It's not justifying merely because you don't see it. I don't expect everyone to understand his motivations in the same way. I appreciate differences of opinion, but I'll thank you to be non-patronizing in the future.

Matias Bianchi Sounds like you're the one justifying evil actions. You think Jaime should have let a man burn a city full of innocent people to the ground just so he's not judged? Please. The king was a mad dog that needed to be put down before he committed mass murder.

One of my favourite scenes and the definitive turning point in my perception of Jaime. I wouldn't even say Jamie's humbled over time. I believe we (the viewers) were set up to perceive him a certain way. He killed the king in order to save an entire city, knowing perfectly well people would judge him for that. And that happened years ago, not during the stories character development arc.
@danielm4098

I think you're dead right. People hating Jaime for doing the right thing in killing the mad king is what made him a "bad" guy. He was just a good looking to do the right thing before that happened. Despite some questionable deeds, Jaime is as heroic as anyone else in the series

"Do you think Ned Stark wanted to hear my side? He judged me guilty the moment he set eyes on me". This is exactly what this show tricks its viewers into doing. It gets them to jump to early, false conclusions from the get go and barely ever stops. It makes them "root" for an apparent protagonist before having him start a war, crucify people at random or sacrifice his daughter. It gets them to judge "antagonists" before showing how they only act in self-defense.

What's so real about Jaime as a character is that after this monologue he doesn't just instantly switch to being a perfect good guy. He goes from being a bad guy to a conflicted, complex guy. We now know there's good in him, but that doesn't mean the bad still isn't there too.

The really embarrassing thing about this show is the utterly disgraceful popularity of a character meant to be perceived as a warning. Daenerys is explicitly shown as a tyrant misusing power in spite of good intentions and a large part of the audience is oblivious to it. They go cheering for her like their ancestors cheered for the dictators of the 20th century.

Are you planning on doing other reactions to other shows after Game of Thrones? If so I would like to recommend Doctor Who, it is really a great sci fi show and it has some really great messages behind. it. It has been running since 1963 and is still going to today . It features the Doctor, a time travelling alien who can come back to life when they die (it's called regeneration in the show) and every time he comes back to life, he has a different face and personality. He travels with a companion (usually a girl) and they travel the universe and save galaxies and sometimes the entire universe. A great thing about the show is that it is not like other science fiction shows, but it can get very emotional and it deals with some adult topics in a very expert way. You can get very attached to characters and you will get sad when they leave but their will always be another character you will love. I recommend you start from the 2005 revival series with Christopher Eccleston and then you can work your way up to now.

This is one of my favorite scenes, here we see Jaime being honest and transparent. By what rights does the wolf judge the lion? Well, Jaime, first of all you are just a Ser, Ned Stark was a Lord, second of all you killed an evil king without bringing him to justice just the way Ned Stark wanted to, and that's murderer, obviously the honorable Ned Stark wouldn't hear your side 'cause Lannisters are well known for being a tricky family, be thankful that Robert Baratheon pardon you, in spite of Ned Stark's demands on bringing your blonde ass to justice.
