A detailed look at a counterfeit Game of Thrones Seasons 1-7 box set.
I bought this box set from China hoping that it might be genuine, but it wasn't. My purchase was protected against fraud and I did receive a refund. When I receive a genuine copy, I will prepare another video comparing the genuine copy to the counterfeit copy. Then, I will destroy the counterfeit box set.
The quality of the print on the box looked very good, but I don't have a genuine box to compare it to.
The discs appeared to be stamped, not burned; there are no visible concentric circles, and the data side is silver instead of some other color. However, there appears to be debris trapped between the stamping and the outer plastic on some discs.
I analyzed random files on my computer and discovered there is no copy protection. There are varying frame rates among video files. Some video files are in English while others are in French, allowing the spoken language to change in the middle of an episode.
After these discoveries, I did not bother trying and play the discs in a DVD player to perform any other analyses. The box continues to sit on a table, having never been viewed, waiting to be compared to a genuine copy.
I have forwarded these same points to the vendor and received a prompt refund.
I hope this video helps you identify whether you have bought a counterfeit copy or a genuine copy.
If you know you own a genuine copy, I would be interested in what the specifications that I analyzed are on a genuine copy, so I can determine whether my next purchase is genuine.
Please let me know your thoughts in the comments.
