One of my favorite dt videos in a while for a few reasons 1. Format and concept are good: going back and showing how initial impressions have changed from reviewer who play hundred of games 2. Great segment Chris. I appreciate this format more than Tom’s to be honest. It’s way more interesting to hear about a few games where you rating has changed than a bunch of games where your rating has stayed the same. I recommend checking out the second Red Rising sequel. Since the solo mode for Red Rising helped you adjust your thinking on it, I really recommend that you try the solo mode for Seize the Bean. It has one of the best solo modes that I have played. It even has 20 different levels of difficulty. It’s cool to work through each different difficulty level to see if you can beat the AI style opponent. I know that you had issues with some of the iconography (which I personally had no problem with), but if you are able to get past that, I think you will find that the gameplay is excellent and a great challenge.

Very nice video! For me ark nova has an even bigger issue and that’s the first player advantage. Especially in a 3/4 player game the first player has the first chance to grab one of the partner zoos or universities and the 4th player or third player has to take what’s left basically. With this first partner zoo, rushing to a conservation project is quite easy. The first player also gets to have one more round than all the others (if he doesn’t finish) and one round in this game is a huge advantage.
@TheJuicyTangerine
6 ай бұрын
Correction for Ark Nova: the expansion not only allows you to fish cards out of the deck (through a mechanic of "reveal cards until you hit x"), but the university that does so actually gives you one of those icons as well I think your criticism about certain cards being hard to play is just...part of the game? You're not supposed to be playing every card you draw, the point is to find the cards that best fit your situation. Certain cards, such as the Lion, the Panda, and the Proboscis Monkey, are very, very hard to play, but super powerful when you are able to play them. The biggest gripe I have with Ark Nova is when you, and the other players, just can't find anything, so you're left with just blind drawing from the deck, and the person who wins is the person who hits the most powerful cards.

The game does allow some communication between rounds, but during the round I feel like the lack of communication makes a lot of sense. I would be terrified if the copilot of my plane had to ask the pilot "Should I lower the landing gear this time or let you land without them?" Each person has to be able to fill their responsibility and do it in good timing with the other person doing their job. It's like music to me, when a bassist and a drummer get into a really smooth, unspoken groove because they both know how to do their job while working with each other.

Dark Tower...it's still just a pez dispenser with lights. There's a good review on BGG about Dark Tower. It lists all the things the old tower used to do, all the bookkeeping and stuff. The new tower doesn't do that. It spits skulls and blinks some lights. Yay. It doesn't even do battles. The point of the tower was interacting with the tower. You engaged with it. Literally. Given how little the new one actually does, no matter how people try to convince themselves, it doesn't justify the added price point the tower brings. Unless one has a lot of money to burn. Otherwise there are equal or better games for the price. The expansions look cool and stuff, but it could've been done for much cheaper, especially since the game uses an app. But..people like blinking lights and an overpriced skull spitter.
