Most open world games don't respect your time. I'm at point where I now cannot stand playing open world games because a majority of them are filler side quests and traversal. And by filler side quests, I'm not talking about actual side missions; I'm referring to the ones where you collect one item and then the game tells you to go collect 50 more of them spread across the map. Absolutely cannot stand them.

You may as well shove one of the persona's onto this list. As much as I LOVE the games, the ones before 5 (especially 4) do a lot of overtalking for little to no reason other than to stretch the game out and it's obvious in the re releases of the games. At least 5 can get behind the fact that the game needs all of that overexplaining to make most sense out of that game, 3 and 4 overstay their welcome, especially with the answer and the golden ending.

Funny because I couldn't disagree more, not when it comes to Persona but when it comes to the games you chose. To me this was never a big problem BEFORE Persona 5. I feel like 5 is the one that has the most amount of redundant dialog with characters repeating the same things and objectives over and over again during different periods of the day and then across multiple days. To me Persona has been treating it's audience as 9 year old kids more and more each new game. It's been getting progressively worse since Persona 3. Thankfully Metaphor seems to be reducing this a bit.
@ryoung6518

I also disagree about Persona 5. I think it takes way too long to open up and repeats the same things to you constantly before the first boss fight like it thinks the players are too dumb to understand what's going on. You have to go back and forth to the gym teachers palace so many times before you get to do a proper run and to me the P5 kinda overstays its welcome too. I was done with the game after the first final boss I didn't want to have to fight the "real" final boss for another 10-20 hours D:

You both have presented valid arguments against the 5th installment to which I have a confession to make. I am slightly biased against 4 due to the cliché over anime-ness of everything compared to 3's mature tone, and I unfairly blamed 5's shortcomings on the 4th game. But yes, as a whole these games do have a problem with needlessly wasting the player's time when they can just summarize the previous events. Now with the arguments presented against me above, I think it's safe to say that 5 is a bit more guilty of this, seeing as they repeat the objective for kamoshida multiple times.

It’s always funny to me that people decry games for walking sections when this game has the most walking sections I’ve seen in a game and the whole farming section in the epilogue made me want to delete it. What are you talking about. Breaking bad does not waste your time, every episode means something. The countless hours horse riding are just a waste of time and fast travel does not make up for the exceedingly mediocre gameplay. Unless it's telltale, you aren't going to get 1 shit from me if you only focused on story and have mediocre gameplay. The last of us is an even bigger offender, dumbass game was loved by critics for the story, even tho gameplay was pure dogshit and now look at how bad games have gotten. There is more that gets in the way of RDR2's pacing than just the riding, like the slow animations for everything, having to eat and clean yourself regularly, having to feed and groom your horse, having to clean your guns, having to change your clothes according to climate, and I don't remember exactly, but I think you also have to sleep sometimes? There's just too many of these little time wasting things that keep stacking up. I still think it's an amazing experience on a first playthrough, just not one that gets me feeling like replaying much. This abundance of realism doesn't make things fun, just tedious.

I think the "bloat" issue is overblown in most games, including Assassin's Creed games. Like, 80% of the content is optional, it's not like Dragon Age Inquisiton that forces the player to do side content to farm a currency that allows them to do main quests (Power).

Far Cry 2 is paradoxical. One of its most important aspects is how you get around the map. If you just use the roads with loud and obvious cars, you'll run into a lot of trouble, but it will be relatively fast. But if you go slow and stealthy that can take a lot of time. Some of my best moments with the game were from just slowly travelling around the map breathing in the atmosphere, but it can also easily get tedious. Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga was too long. Having 23 explorable planets was great especially with new planets such as Exegol and Cantonica but there did not need to be 1200 kyber bricks plus a lot of the puzzles to obtain them were the same such as shooting 4 targets within a time limit. Not to mention multiple times having to leave the planet you are on to find certain people or gather certain resources, those smuggling missions, and having to still pay for characters that you went through trouble to unlock. I absolutely agree with the Red Dead Redemption 2 Don't get me wrong, I've literally sat down for like 4 hours and just slowly rode around, went hunting, camped out, etc. But when GTA V has a much better ratio of distance and time traveled for the most part...its expected for Red Dead. At the very least, there should've been an option to skip the ride if your waypoint is oh so far out. And to add a game, Far Cry 5 is bad about forcing you to interact with side content to reach any progress in the story. They should've just had the ending of you taking down the cult leaders, then spend your post game time on cleaning up the areas. Far Cry 6 did that to an extent and was much more enjoyable to me.

Listen man, funny enough I just finished another rather unnecessarily large game and that was Atomic heart. A game that I really do not know how to feel about, parts of it left me really impressed and others in agonizing dread. If one thing is for sure though is that it really is quite different from any other game it seems, a strange mixture of all kinds of staff. In any case I just wanted to ask if you have tried this game and if not if you ever will and if you have any thoughts about it, thanks!

I actually played atomic heart last year, I didnt really think much about it. I think if I do another mid game list it would be on there it had some good and bad but ultimately was just kinda forgettable

@@TotallyTubularJonathan Right, the story was terrible. Anyway yeah please put it in one of your videos so I can hear your take on it. To be honest for me it was alright, the shooting was meh, but I enjoy some of the puzzles etc lolz. Also some of the boss fights were fun and the energy weapons were nice. What I find funny is that this game was supposed to be an immersive sim but not even close imo.

I agree with red dead redemption and days gone. I got bored of rdr2 because of the slow poke travelling and sometimes they do have too much dialogue when travelling and the horse will slow down. Also there are too many missions to do too. In days gone, the last camp which is the military became tedious for me. Both are great games no doubt but they have flaws too.

Rust is the worst game since it requires you to treat it like a job or else you won’t get anywhere and lose all your progress

I think the biggest waste of time to me lately was final fantasy 16. Just absolutely draaaaaags and animations take too long when accepting quests, running is too slow, and the world could cut its areas down by 3/4 size and lose nothing

Horseriding is not realistic, horses are way more smarter and dont fall out of air like in rdr

i agree with everything even for the games i also like that you bring up. except survival games. only because i think they are exempt from the category since the investment of time is kind of the point. live service games might also fall into this. people have been no-lifing live service games since everquest and Ultima Online

no league of legends? theres literally websites dedicated to telling you how much time you wasted on lol. 5k hours... 10k hours.. it gets absurd. and those hours are spent by people who say the game is shit and not worth it

Christmas. Cool list. While I also love RDR2, I'll agree that it eventually became a slog. The entire Guarma section of the game felt unnecessary. Lately, I'm finding more and more that games do not respect your time when trying to be a completionist. I know it's self inflicted since I hunt trophies, but some of the blatant padding that's put into trophy lists is egregious. While I love tower defense games, the Bloons TD5 platinum made me NEVER want to touch a tower defense game again. Lmao

I just finished RDR2. It was absolute borefest, the whole game except the last mission. That game is barely 6/10 in my books. Same for the Witcher 3.

I love Days Gone, i think if it was to make it shorter should be the beginning. Definitely not the last 2/3's Witcher 3 IMO is much worse on this aspect than Days Gone, I struggled to complete the base game and I Don't know if i will have the mind force to play the DLC. Christmas!
