Thought I was the only one in the world who wasn’t taught on how to keep a home clean and tidy, feel like I was less of a person- I made the determination that just because I wasn’t “just like” every other wife/mom didn’t make me less of a person. And the. I came across a few of you wonderful women who showed me I wasn’t that different and if you could change and thrive , so could I. 💕

I know how you feel. My mom’s house was always clean. Like, really clean, dusted & whatnot. Nope. Nope. Nope. I still don’t know how she did it. I’ve learned a lot from this channel! Some stuff even stuck with me. Love Flylady basics. “Get dressed to shoes” is a little thing with a big impact. “While coffee is brewing unload the dishwasher”. I live this. Except sometimes I’m loading instead of unloading. Flylady has you going to sleep with a sweep of the kitchen & shine your sink. That doesn’t always happen, but the dishwasher is attended to. Big thing: my husband made an appt with the real estate appraiser at 10am on a Monday. And didn’t tell me until 11pm the night before. WTF?? My house didn’t look like my mom’s. Art stuff, dog toys, plants & half finished terrariums everywhere. 🙄 These days, my house looks like people (and dogs) live here, but not embarrassing. I didn’t have to do much, which is good, because I was NOT getting up at 6am to run around and clean.

@@DarkbutNotsinister My mom had six kids and our house was immaculate. I know how she did it...1. Us kids were outside from after breakfast until dinner time, almost every single day. 2. If we were inside due to weather, we were only allowed to take out one thing, put it away, and then take out something else. Violations would result in spankings, lots and lots of spankings. 😔

I love and use all of these! 😃 Another one I have, I would call the “Snowball.” If the whole house feels out of control, I pick one room and clean it up. The next day, I keep that room clean and clean up one more room. Day three, keep the first two rooms clean and add one more, and so on. It’s not a game to build joy in the moment, but it works great if everything just feels like too much.

I love this video! I saw the "That Awkward Mom" channel and her videos on cleaning. She talked about using the flylady system and then I saw it on your channel too. I have used flylady for just over a week now (I have a small apartment with just my husband so it's easier). I LOVE the cleaning ideas and I kind of did some of them already. I like listening to KZitem videos (I listened to this one while hanging my laundry and making the bed), cleaning while the kettle is boiling or the tea is brewing, when the laundry starts washing (usually I have about 30min then), or when my husband goes out for a quick walk (in that time I power clean). I also love to call someone and chat, especially my sister. Also, when my husband goes for a walk and I'm home alone, I pretend to teach people how to power clean their homes😅 It works because it keeps me focused and it helps me figure out what works best for me.

I like having a challenge while cleaning. A fun one is having a song play and try to finish the dishes before it's up. Also, I sometimes mini-reward myself with food. Like I will make cinnamon buns, first start the dough, then while it rises do the laundry or something, then add the toppings and do another task. It's alot of task switching, so I follow along with my list. Oh, and making a list with times, then setting a timer, 10 minutes clean, 10 minutes getting kids ready, 10 minutes break. Ect.

Got *piles* of paper to shred? Do it during commercials! I put my shredder and an extra trash bag next to my favorite chair and shred paper during all the commercials. You get your piles of paper gone, your shredder has a chance to cool off between sessions and you don't have to listen to the endless commercials. It's amazing how much you can get done in just one evening! Especially handy if you've been decluttering your papers throughout the house.

First, thank you so much for your printouts and motivation. You helped me figure out how to get on a schedule and keep my house clean. My newest, yet favorite trick is giving my granddaughter my Apple Watch with the timer running to see how fast I can get things done! It worked great because she doesn’t like me cleaning instead of playing with her and this included her in the process. First, I said I could get everything done in five minutes and when I wasn’t done, she said do another five. I was racing through the chores so she though it was fun (she’s only 4 yrs old). She even ended up helping me change sheets so I could get done faster. Win win!

I bring it all in the livingroom and do it after cleaning the house.. And watch a film/program on TV and drink my water. No I didn't get up, I sat still with tea and I watched your commercial🤣. I do eg the dishwasher and clean as I go while cooking.. So after eating I only have to put our plates in the dishwasher. My sister and I do housework or cooking while whatsapp face timing🤗. You feel closer because you are walking around each others houses together. I just place my phone down so we can see each other... No stiff neck and no wireless earplugs needed. BUT I got some pants put away that I just brought home and dropped on my bed, so I won't have to deal with them tonight. ^-^ Also, a combination of the dance party and the commercial break would be a fun one: Turn on a song you really like, and try to get as much cleaning as you can done in the span of one song. Then, if you feel like starting again with a new song, you can, but you don't have to.

My daughter used to watch Sesame Street, and my favourite character was The Count. So many times I would be tired, a bit under the weather or not in the mood to clean - but still had to clean, so I started saying "I can't do everything, but I can do ___ things". I'd pick a number, (usually 100), and choose each time what constituted a count of 1 and go until I reach 100. Of course, once I hit that number I have to give The Count's famous laugh, ah ah ah! (But sometimes when I choose a higher number, I lose count and just get into it) Been doing this for over 30 years - but gotta try your suggestions, too :)

I've alway love playing games during cleaning, especially with my kids while they were growing up. Now I often set my timer for 15 minutes and race the clock to finish the task. Or in some cases, I look over the job on hand and give it a "time" and then try to beat it. Like, I can reset my bedroom in 5 minutes and GO. Another mind game I use is to pretend I'm cleaning someone else's house. I will look at things differently like I am going to give them advice on storage or what not!! I will have an entire conversation with them in my head. Like, "why do you store these here? Is it working for you?" Hey it works! I think we become blind to our own clutter or settle in to our way of storing things we forget that we can change it up! I've come up with some great solutions just using that mind game. :)

I make up mind games like this to “trick myself” into going places like the grocery store. My husband thinks I’m crazy. Well, YEAH, why do you think I make up mind games? It’s effective.

Tru Earth strips are the best.... so environmentally thoughtful and the dry skin on my upper arms and lower legs completely cleared up!

We did commercial cleaning when I was growing up, too. To this day, if I have a hard time getting motivated, I use ad time to get a quick cleaning job done.

Thank you for this. Great ideas. I'm in the UK & like to listen or watch ITV's This Morning when I'm cleaning. Phillip & Holly are so lovely.

What a great video! So fun - and inspirational. Loved the dance moves! Those were all great ideas. I had already started chipping away at stuff while waiting for the microwave or my tea to steep and you're right, i get lots done. Thanks, I can always count on your videos to inspire! :)

I do so many of these. Especially phoning and cleaning. My mom and I are close. If neither of us have anything planned but need to clean, many times we call each other for and hour or so and it makes the time pass as you are cleaning.

I will only allow myself to listen to Dana K. Whites podcast, "a slob comes clean" when I work in my house. She has a TON of episodes!

I do the commercial cleaning. Good amount of time to move laundry from the washer to the dryer, hang up/fold some dry laundry, and/or put laundry away.

Thanks for helping my 5 yo get dressed! He’s been fighting it all morning, but the commercial worked. I also finished clearing the dishwasher from what my kids missed on their way out the door.

One game my kids and I love to play when we clean is the number game. I write down numbers 1-25. I have the littlest one point to a random number and then the rest of us run and pick up and put away that many things. We cross that number off the list then pick a new number. And we are off again. A person doesn't realize how many things are left out and need put away until we are all filling our count of items. 🤯 It is fun and gets all of us motivated. #secretslob #victories
