Fantastic video, please keep it up! Subbed I love the song at 4:22, but can't remember where I've heard it before - I think it's Secret of Mana, but I'd love if you listed the music you used in the description

Thank you so much! The song used there is called Ruins, from Undertale :)

This is the first video of yours that I've watched, and I've got to say, the quality is outstanding. I honestly expected to see this video with 100k+ views, which it most definitely deserves. My personal gripe with video game categories is the "metroidvania" genre. There are a few games, like Ori and Hollow Knight, that I would say are extremely close to the namesakes for this genre, however making the leap from a game like Super Metroid to, say, Jedi Fallen Order or Control, you'd be forgiven for not being able to see what makes them alike. It really does make it difficult to recommend a game to someone, as you can't do it based on the categories it falls into, but rather the feeling you get from playing the game, and the experiences that you enjoy in it. All around wonderful video. I hope to see more of your content in the future 😊

Thank you so much for the comment! Metroidvania is kind of a weird genre in general. I believe it’s based on Metroid, and like the 10th Castlevania game. But some other Castlevania and Metroid games aren’t even technically Metroidvania-games. I had a little piece of script written about that but decided to scrap it because I felt like my point was clear already and didn’t want to drag on lol

Loved the video, and you're right, those genres most of the time don't even make sense anymore. When I want to describe a game to a friend I jusr say stuff like: it looks like this game, but it has the mechanics of that game... Anyways great work and loved the small jokes😂

Thanks you thank you! Yeah it's rough describing some games nowadays. To be fair, most often I don't even fully know what the genre means, but I do know that the game is that genre lol

I think when it comes to games genre, it's a means to an end and the whole point of it on the current consensus of what we perceive it. the actual terms don't really matter so long as it gets the point across. I mean, when I say "decimated" you understood it as "destroyed/beaten severely" not "cut down by 10ths" (which was what the term originally meant). Likewise though RPG's origin really did mean RPG (as apposed to what we generally see it as now) it should still be serviceable if it gets the point across. And while it is preferable if not best to say "it's like xyz," some games aren't really derivative of famous games. It would be preferable if I say "Pert-em-Hru is like Gu-l", if you've never heard of that game, it would make more sense for me to say "it's an RPG horror game" terms only fail if it causes confusion or misunderstood expectations of the game (i.e. calling slenderman an FPS because it's in first person is misleading since you don't shoot)

You make good points. I think it’s true that nowadays the genres are there solely for categorisation instead of accurately telling the gamer what the game is about. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

Great vid! I think what is at the core of cozy games is always having something to do but not feeling like you need to do that at a specific time. Like giving the player so much freedom and choice to explore all of the stuff the game has to offer but not forcing them to have to pursue any of it. Maybe I'm thinking more of sandbox games rather than cozy games but a lot of sandbox games are cozy games to me.

I can relate to that yeah. It's just a bit sad that most game developers don't really know what 'cozy' is it seems lol

the problem with "cozy games" though is everyone is calling any game with a cute art style a cozy game. I've seen people call a game cozy when it has a cute art style and very stressful difficult gameplay, but they won't call chill games with beautiful scenery cozy if its realistic and doesn't feature cutesy characters.

Yeah for real, like people would call Celeste a cozy game for the style. That doesn’t really seem right to me hahaha

One of those times the algorithm actually recommends a good video from a small creator:) I totally agree with genres being confusing. For the longest time I didn't have a clue what rougelite and rougelike even meant among other things. At the same time it's difficult to come up with something that would fix all the inconsistencies ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks! And yes, it's difficult to describe games besides genres and comparing them. But still, genres like roguelite or metroidvania for example just don't make any sense lol

Elden Ring is literally a JRPG. Just like Dark Souls and King's Field, Elden Ring is an action RPG made in Japan. Action RPG is the actual genre of Souls games by the way. Another example of Action RPG: the Ys series of games.

This is technically true, but I wouldn't call Elden Ring a JRPG because I think that would cause confusion. It's why I brought it up here :)

RPG is a meaningless term, wtf kinda roleplaying do you do in Assassins creed Valhalla? That's categorized as an rpg lmao😂 Baldurs gate 3 is an RPG, Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 aren't

Yeah agreed, like just call them adventure or action instead of action-RPG. It has no purpose haha
