There's also a thing called swap space on your SSD (or HDD). If you have too little RAM for a program, what a program might in stead do is use a dedicated swap space on your SSD that'll act like a second pool of memory. This swap space is way slower, but at least it will work

which is HORRIBLE advice because using all slots on the MoBo that isnt "server grade" with 4 channel memory controller will result in lower performance than using just 2 modules for dual channel ... its also a total waste of moneyu for gaming to go above 16 GB of RAM 16 GB is the current "sweetspot" 32 GB is for when you have the budget and dont mind wasting money just to be "future proof" and "why the hell not" 64 GB is pure stupidity UNLESS you also use the system for WORK that actually can use that memory capacity

As a computer builder, I have often provided suggestions to others that the best improvement (both less expensive, and for performance) for a PC is to improve RAM; Firstly you should have 16GB of RAM for almost all use-cases with conventional versions of Windows. And increasing it beyond this substantially increases PC capacities as well, to operate applications and games. Linux, however, can provide a far more efficient use of resources.

I have like 10-20 tabs open on Chrome all the time, which include 2-3 streams running (one is there non-stop cuz ads go to support animal shelter), Discord and notebook++ with coding in progress that I just keep there always open + some interactive coding on the website while learning. I use 15-25 GB of ram just on that and for me it's Idle so I'm really happy that I got 64GB

Crazy how a massive game like GTA only realistically uses 4 and with max graphics probably like 8 but most games nowadays are tiny and yet use like 20 lmfao

No one talk about ram timings and rows, they are very important since your cpu has a officially supported speed of ram. Lets take for example the 7800x3d processor from amd, it supports up to 5200Mhz but you can push it up to 6000 with a tune I don’t know too much it tho so don’t go out there and put 6000Mhz ram kits until you have done your research
@walter4180
7 ай бұрын
Not the worst to do so anyway mind since yea sure you're technically wasting money if your CPU can't go up to 6000 but having the future proofed headroom is nice Plus like you said about tuning, doesn't xmp and the amd equivalent push for example a 7600x to be able to use 6000mts despite officially only supporting 5200mts? Cause if so, most people gaming would want xmp on anyway

@@Asghaad Maybe I do need it as some games usually need upto 13 to 14 gigs on ram high settings but becuase of the functions of windows and some other crucial 3rd party applications running the available to the games is atmost 10-11 gb, I usually check all the details using msi Afterburner and compare them to the benchmark videos on youtube. And sometimes I've to do multitasking with different applications too sometimes, like recording gameplay or some other work and opening chrome or edge too in between which use significant amount of memory. I have dual channel ram slots in which each one can support upto a max of 32 gb.
