Rage 128 has impressive speed considering it's more a competitor to Voodoo 2 and TNT1. Unfortunately it released so late that only after few months TNT2 and Voodoo 3 hit the market. Still, if I was young and without money and my parents would buy me Rage 128 (non-Pro) I would probably be very happy with it.

@@blastfromthepast3073 Well it was scheduled to release in 1998 but has been released in early 1999. It was too late to compete in retail but the chip was successful in OEM territory. It's been over 20 years so my memory may have faded a bit, but I don't recall a "Pro" version of the TnT2. I did, however, immediately buy a Creative Labs 32mb TnT2 Ultra as soon as it hit shelves. As much of a 3dfx fan I was, the V3 just wasn't that much of a leap from the 12mb Voodoo2 SLI I had at the time. It just made better sense and added value to opt for the nVidia offering, especially at advantage of 32bit color with new 21" CRT I got at around the same time. The Voodoo2 was so ahead of its time when it came out, I didn't officially retire my V2 SLI setup until the GeForce SDR came out. I gave away the TnT2u a long time ago, but I still have the V2 SLI in retro Win98se gaming box. So many fun memories from those early 3D gaming days.

@@blastfromthepast3073 Yeah. A bit of the frustration with 3dfx is coming back to me now. If I recall, even the AGP version of the V3 essentially ran in "PCI mode" and could not take advantage of the AGP interface. Not that there was much of a difference at that given time, but it still seems like 3dfx was just chugging along and resting on the laurels of their older tech. Meanwhile, nVidia, ATI, Matrox and even upstarts like PowerVR with their Kyro/Kyro II were taking chances.

There is a way to dump .PNG files to record Quake engine games like HalfLife, but it severely decreases performance as each image file, dozens of them a second, are very high bitrate and take up a lot of space not to mention the writing to disk which saps a lot of CPU power away from rendering the game.
