Radiation oncologist Elizabeth Nichols, MD, explains how the GammaPod, a new FDA-cleared radiation therapy, is now being used to treat women with early-stage breast cancer. The device was invented at the University of Maryland School of Medicine; the University of Maryland Medical Center is the first site to offer the treatment. Dr. Nichols is an assistant professor of radiation oncology and clinical director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of School of Medicine who treats patients at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.
