Still a great pump gun even though it is mostly plastic, kzitem.infoUgkxh4su9YgU1tWmjikirWcKJbjsFLEU62Bc but with care it will last a long time. It would be neat if Crosman would make a commemorative version of this with real wood stock, but of course it would weigh more and cost more, but hey, it would be cool. The included scope is more of a toy, but it does work for backyard plinking. I prefer to use pellets for greater accuracy, but BBs are just as good for plinking. This is not a Red Ryder folks; fully pumped it is 3 times the power of a Red Ryder and can be dangerous if not handled properly. Be safe out there.

Ask any sniper you happen to see. Firing up hill or down hill is vastly different than firing straight. Gravity plays into the calculation and can drastically effect projectile drop. I could be wrong because it was a video and I cannot say for certain but it appeared to me that you were firing up hill. If I am correct in that it would cause pellet drop differently than a straight shot. The arch of the pellet would be greater.
@HuntShootLive
3 жыл бұрын
@Michael Brown Uphill or downhill decreases the travel distance for the projectile, slightly, when the angle is greater than 45 degrees. I was not shooting anywhere close to that angle. But, if I were firing at a significant angle and my rangefinder did not calculate for the incline, I would impact higher than with a “ground distance” measurement (I would be holding for 100 yards but the compensated angle makes it actually only 75 yards so impact would be high). Compensating for the 45 degree angle decreases the distance. 100 yards at a 45 degree angle becomes 75 yards. Doesn’t matter if it’s uphill or downhill. Calculation is the same. But I was shooting at far less of an angle than 45 degrees so my ranges were exactly represented.

Great video, I will also do a similar test. I just purchased the Gamo Wildcat Whisper .22 cal. I just can't seem to spend too much money on an air gun, lol. I did notice that there is always that pellet that works best with each rifle, and I believe that. There are other factors that affect the projectile flight, like how deep it is seated, consistency in grains (related to cost), and different shapes. In the end, I will use the most accurate pellet. Terminal ballistics don't matter if you don't hit it.

Crossman hollow point lead does about 650fps based on other channels chronographs. They also show that the magnum is less accurate. After sighting it in on a half dollar at 30ft, My brother and I were shooting cans at 100yards with the cheap stock scope just last weekend. It seemed like it wasn't dropping for nothing. Those groups won’t be accurate if you’re using the stock scope. At least get a one piece scope mount... especially with that scope. Your POI WILL move on you, it’s just a matter of time. However, that rifle is very accurate. PRO TIP: When you get to that 2nd stage in the trigger snap it and hold for a second. With any break barrel they usually shoot the best when holding or resting on the balance point of the stock. I’ve had mine about a year and put 1000’s of rounds through it and it’s very accurate. Only problem is that magazine assembly will come loose after awhile and I don’t want to mess with it. Otherwise great video 👍

The reason why your having so much drop is the because of the weight of the pellets. 14.3 grain pellets are effective maybe out 60 yards. After that you need to holdover. Use a pellet from 16-19 grains. The drop is much less because of the heavier weight. Or you can also try using slugs. They will go 3x as far because of their shape like a bullet.

From what I understand about pellets that higher the velocity (above the sound barrier) it can greatly reduces accuracy. You mentioned that the Whisper seemed to be more accurate the Magnum. So my question is where you using the same pellets? The Magnum may improve accuracy with a heavier pellet, something in about the 18 grain range. Have you tried heavier pellets in the magnum and if so how did it work out for you?
@HuntShootLive
2 жыл бұрын
@jdwagman Both the whisper and magnum seem to like the heavier pellets better in my rifles anyway. I’ve done a few other videos on accuracy at this point and it’s been a while so I can’t recall specifics but round nosed 14-15 grain do well in both. Ts22s do well in both. It may be more accurate for me to say it seems a wider variety of pellets shoot more accurately through the whisper as compared to the magnum.

I just bought one of these rifles today. It was the only one that they had at Walmart, and unfortunately, one end of the box was open, and when I got it home, the rotary magazine was missing. Walmart doesn't accept returns on air guns, so I have contacted the manufacturer/distributor, to try to acquire a magazine for this gun. It is too bad that they don't come with open sights. We were being overun by nutria swamp rats. I caught an adult nutria in a cage trap. This gun put the critter to sleep instantly. range was about four inches.

I must be doing something wrong. All of these great comments on this gun and I Have had this swarm whisper for a couple years and have tried bunch different pellets , different ways to hold the gun and can’t get a decent group good enough for squirrel hunting. It’ll kill a squirrel if I’m lucky enough to actually get ahead shot but i miss or loose more wounded squirrels than I find. I consider myself a halfway decent shot but this rifle doesn’t cut the mustard for me. Went back to my 50 year old pump Sheridan.

Great video! (Thanks for sharing them) We got the swarm whisper, what’s strange is zero’ed at 18-20yds, but at 30-40yds the shots are raising, 2-2-1/2” I’d think they’d drop? We will try keeping ahold firm, but it was held tight on a bench. Same with shots at 50yds. .177 version, 7.9g crossman and 10g H-N (hollows)

@@HuntShootLive …Well I found out what it was, resting the barrel on something and not the forearm! Check it and see, the barrel assembly moves upward when resting (or pushed)on just the barrel 2” or 4”or 6” from the end. Then makes the shot high by X- inches.. if no pressure is on the barrel… shoots nickel size groups, but any upward pressure (just on the barrel) shots all over the place, mainly high. 🙄🤔😤
@HuntShootLive

@@hondaredracer I didn't think of that when you initially posted. Holding the barrel on something also messes with the harmonics and can kill consistency, at least in centerfire rifles.

The pulling to the right of the target could be from the trigger pull being so hard on most of these higher powered pellet guns. I have a Ruger 22 and the trigger pull is always something that can throw my shot off. Maybe the trigger pull, along with the reduced speed of the projectile, being pulled to the right, assuming you are right handed, could possibly be the reason for the shots going right? Idk lmk what you think if you get a minute and I'll subscribe 😊
@HuntShootLive

@Alex Searle You are correct. I’m sure I was getting some pull to the right because I am right handed. The trigger is my only real complaint with the whisper. It is really bad! The Magnum is too. I’ve not shot a pellet rifle with a great trigger yet! Thanks for watching and for the comment!!!

Sounds like the Swarm Magnum is better for distance of 75 to 100 yards and the Swarm Whisper is better for distance 35 to 50 yards. Q: Can you please do a gel test for penetration at 35 to 50 yards for the Swarm Whisper and a gel test for penetration at 75 to 100 yards for the Swarm Magnum? I would assume that the magnum would have enough lethal penetration but not sure how much that is in terms of inches. That knowledge would definitely determine what kind of game animal I might attempt a shot at, ie squirrel vs rabbit, raccoon, possum, or ground hog. Thanks. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

How does the 10 shots work? Does the last shot come out weak? Can you pump it every shot for max power? Im confused. I want the best power and range for 300 or under and im considering this rifle...im just confused about the 10 shot system. Do you pump it 1 time for 10 shots? That cant shoot every shot at every bit of power as the first, right?
@HuntShootLive
Ай бұрын
@@DRUMSandBUBS I’m is piston powered so each cock is necessary to get you one shot. 1 cocking action equals one shot. The mag holds 10 pellets so you can shoot, cock, shoot 10 times before needing to take the mag out and reload. Each cocking effort engages the piston in the same way so each shot is the same pressure.

I really enjoy your logical approach. I might suggest that you try several different pellets and slugs. Air rifles are notoriously finicky and if you try different particular grain weight , style of projectile and manufacturer you might find your gun really loves that variant and you'll be able to tighten those groups up considerably.
