I just watched this scene again, and tge look that Galadriel and Gandalf exchange at that point is absolutely priceless! That sideways tilt of the head, the slight smirk, looking back to Lady Galadriel (wisest and most powerful Elf on Middle Earth) is such a classic! The look she gives him, and the look he returns is hilarious, and I think shows the depth of friendship and love that lie between these 2 longtime friends! Gandalf goes along with the dwarves leaving ahead of the meeting of the White Council is because [personally I believe] he knows who in the White Council would agree with this decision of the dwarves, and who would not! Plus, Gandalf knows Lady Galadriel will side with the dwarves, and will forgive his, Gandalf 's, slight forgetfulness shall we say, in telling the Members of the White Council that the Dwarves had already left!! All of this said, I've seen the movies, but it's been a while since I've had the chance to watch them all!

One thing that goes SO unnoticed in these movies (not just the Hobbit, but LOTR as well) that I think is just so goddamn hilarious is that Gandalf and Radagast are drug addicts and Saruman is the disappointed and disapproving dad. Seriously, you have Saruman here saying about Radagast that his obsessive consumption of mushrooms have addled his brain and yellowed his teeth, and in The Fellowship of the Ring, Saruman blames Gandalf's failure to notice that the One Ring had been right there in the Shire for 60 whole years on his love of the Halfling's leaf which had clearly slowed his mind. The "Halfling's leaf" in question was the stuff we see Gandalf smoking with Bilbo on the hilltop, which Bilbo describes as "Old Toby, the finest weed in the South Farthing!" In other words, Gandalf's a pothead, Ragadast is hooked on magic mushrooms, and Saruman's just so done with all of it lmao EDIT: For all of the people trying to correct me about the book lore and how it's tobacco, not weed, and how Saruman became addicted to it too... I know. I've read the books. I actually prefer them over the films (both The Hobbit AND The Lord of the Rings), though I do still love the films. I've read through The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The History of Middle-earth, The Nature of Middle-earth, and even The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, and they all just made me love the story and worldbuilding in the books all that much more. There's nothing you can tell me that I'm not already aware of. So let me just clear this up: I'm 1) not being serious and just trying to get a laugh, and 2) basing all of that on Peter Jackson's movies (which, notice, this is a clip from), where Jackson threw in a reference or two to magic mushrooms and SO many references to pot. I'm sure Tolkien would have hated that, but we can joke, can't we??

As a huge Tolkien fan, this was my favorite scene in the movie. It had the magic of mystery that permeates Tolkien's books. If we had more of this, and less frivolous action and the goofy romance, the Hobbit trilogy would've been a masterpiece. It is a travesty that the third movie (or even an "epilogue") was not "The War of the White Council", a transitionary story tying together Jackson's Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. Big kudos to including the actual names of things and places (they didn't gloss over them here). The actors are all spot on as well. This felt like the atmosphere Tolkien intended. Bravo.

this was a great scene. Saruman technically was winning that argument in a legalistic way, but his reason feeds his pride and he is no longer sensitive to the strands of fate leading them to their purpose; instead of sensitivity to Providence, He turns inward into fascination with His own machinations. This leads to His fall (already in motion here); since he cannot imagine in His own mind how Sauroncan be defeated according to God's plan, He takes it upon himself to become a better version of the enemy and replace him

Despite some differences with Peter Jackson about Saruman’s screen time, Christopher Lee has always being very supportive and proud in working with Jackson and Lucas. The Hobbit is not perfect, it was done in a rush, but it has many great parts too. Peter Jackson made several mistakes but talent as a director was intact. Bilbo, Gollum, Beorn house, Gandalf, the attention to detail, and specially Smaug, are high points in this trilogy. I hate when people can only talk shit about it.

Honestly, it has less to do with talent and everything to do with a lack of preparation. The Hobbit was first going to be produced by someone with a totally different vision (whimsical child story), but this person eventually left and Peter was persuaded to take on the job because his company was already affiliated with the movie. But when he was asked for prep time to do his own version (two years I believe) the suits basically told him that he would have the time that was left after the first producer was left. Thus he spent a lot of time essentially catching up and making things up. That's why you see the quality of the movies deteriorate as you go from the first movie to the second to the third. There were moments he literally didn't know what he was about to film. He was out of his element. I watched this during a documentary that was about it some time ago, but I did gain respect for Jackson that he managed to even produce what he could with the resources he was given.

@@joshivanmel Yeah, she is that old. The whole thing with Gimli and the strands of hair is a reference to Faenor asking Galadriel for strands of her hair. He asked three times and was denied. Gimli asks once and she gives him three. She gave a dwarf what she denied "the greatest" of her own race.

@YourEmperorStef
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they're called the Sorcerers of the West, they helped the Witch King conquer Arnor. They also helped him buy teaching him and they also kind taught him stuff that helped him basically annihilate Middle-Earth through the Great Plague. Also, the Witch King is not an Istari, he was a great king of men who turned evil and after he obtained the ring, became the leader of the 9 and a great sorcerer (and thus why he breaks every single weapon that threatens or attacks him with only a stare of a gesture of his hand).

Stefan Dakovski Well, actually that is one of the many tales of the blue wizards. Another suggests that the blue wizards aided Illuvatars children by fighting off eastern armies of sauron named easterlings. If this is true then that means that they basically didn’t allow for sauron to have back up from the east. Another theory, is that the blue wizards failed their quest and fell in to sauron, creating magic cults and as such.. Who knows 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ we really don’t have much information on the blue wizards..
