This is amazing advice! While I'm not planning on being a doctor, I did take a break between high school & college to figure out what I wanted to do. Then I had to stop pursuing my bachelor's due to financial issues (Thank God I did my Associate's first or I would have nothing right now). The time you take & use in-between, be it voluntary or involuntary, is invaluable. I was doing psychology, but I'm thinking of going down the holistic healthcare route now. And the credits I have acquired already will help me get there. School will always be there, but some opportunities are once in a lifetime & need to be seized.

I would love to hear more of your thoughts addressing the concern of how old you’ll be when you start medical training? Personally, I want to do a postbacc and possibly a masters before med school... but I feel like the school is never ending and that I may miss my chance to have a family.

Thanks for the video suggestion! Just remember that you can do almost anything with the right amount of support and there are SOOO many med students and residents out there with young families 💕

I thought it took about a year to apply for medical school, so even if you are taking a gap year, you would be applying during ur senior year of undergrad, which means any experience you get during ur gap year is not on ur application

You are correct that whatever you do in your "application year" will not be on your initial application. However, you can talk about your gap year plans in your initial application and you can send updates to the school after your initial apps have been sent!

Heyy, do you mind doing a road map of gap years and application cycles?

This is a really interesting idea. Can you describe more what you mean by this?

Do you ever let the fear of student loans hold you back from obtaining degrees? Right now I am pursing a BS in public health with a major of health care administration and want to go on and finish my masters too. I’m just afraid of the cost.

Short answer: not really. I view it as an investment in your future and big investments are definitely scary and painful at the time but they usually pay off. I kind of talk about that in this video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/sICl2aR4pnWTZqg
