Great progress Adam. One additional thing I did in my shop was panel the walls with 3/4" plywood, then painted it white. It brightens up the work area and gives you infinite places to mount whatever you want, rather than being limited to the horizontal 2x6's. Glossy white paint on the walls and ceiling makes it bright and easy to wipe clean.

Well Done Adam, during my days as a QA Manger I lead 5S clean up organizing activities, we used some Peg Boards and Hooks on wall close to where they were being used. We mounted the items on the Peg Board and outlined them with a Sharpie so you could understand what was missing and/or see where to put it back. Just an idea for your consideration going forward in your efforts to organize and de clutter. I enjoy your episodes especially your communication skills and how you incorporate KISS into your activities. 😊👍👍👍

In my view you can never argue with success. You are getting things lined that work best for you. Doug’s shop is pretty much set up for what he does, I assume for a living? Your setup is much more flexible for a young growing family and is multi purpose. You’ll find as your family grows and matures the things like their suspended swing, bike etc will be replaced by other things. All I can say is enjoy them while they are little and invite them to help you in what capacity they are able to at the time. You’ll never regret it & they’ll never forget it. It will also make your wife very happy. Keep dreaming and over coming any obstacles that may pop up. I had a good friend tell me once that problems simply create new opportunities. Take care from an Iowa fan.

One important thing to remember is that you have to be able to let go and start over. In other words don't be in love with what you have already done, at some point you are going to have to redo. I built my work shop in '06, I think I'm on version 6 or 7. The only things that haven't really moved are the cabinet saw, miter saw and compressor.

Hey Adam - For your snow blade, look at heavy duty furniture dollys from Harbor Freight. I use two of them to move my 8 ft box blade around inside the barn. Cheap, and heavy enough to handle the weight and they make mount-up easy.

Thanks for the motivation to get out there and get to organizing. It's getting cold, there isn't insulation in our garage and the power situation isn't the best. However, you're right; you have to start somewhere. Additionally, as you said in the last video, you can spend 30 years and still have additions.

Another great video, love the ideas. I like that you cleared out one side and started from scratch. Sort of like putting parts of a puzzle together, fitting pieces as you go all the while organizing pieces that go together instead of items being scattered in different places where one loses valuable time looking for items. I look forward to following your continued progress.

Couple of thoughts for you. Wrap the screws you hung your chainsaw chains on with a piece of heat shrink. No metal to metal contact that way. It looks like you have foam insulation board on the walls. If it is that can be a fire hazard as that stuff burns at a lower temperature. You might want to cover it. The organizing you have done is really well thought out. Like the chainsaw holders too.

OMG. That kayak! I worked on about 500 of those this last week. It would probably be a good idea to have some kind of scabbard over your chainsaw chains as you have a kid that could run around in there. I've seen how even a non-running chain can cut you very badly. Hate to see your son get a scar. your garden hose, you should consider a wider support where it holds the hose, so they don't kink as it hangs. those things are expensive. This series has made me want to go reorganize my small shop. I went from a 2-car garage to a 10 x 10 shed that I built 2-foot knee walls under when I built it. So, I am using every space I can for storage and still have lots of rum left in the overhead of the first floor under the framing for the second floor. I have a kayak in there on the first-floor ceiling as well as a 20-footot extension ladder on the second floor.

create an over head wrack that swings down from the ceiling for the snow plow attachment. Put it on some safety releases. Think kind of like a small Murphy bed, but overhead. Depending upon what it weighs you can probably use a heavy duty version of the slide down attic latter kit.

If I may ask, why haven't you put board (plywood or osb) on the walls? Over here (Finland) we often put ~1/2" plywood under plasterboard (right word?) in garages so that one can screw anything anywhere. But then we also insulate with rock-wool and not with styrofoam (or what kind of sheets those purple ones are). I don't think that any one way is better than another, we only do things in different ways. Have a nice winter!

Is that 1/2" extruded foam on you walls and garage doors? If you have a fire and the foam catches fire it emits fumes that will drop you or a fireman when it's on fire. Covering the walls with drywall will provide protection to keep fireman safe to fight a fire. 1/2" is typical on walls. 5/8" is for ceilings, but would provide an hour of protection. A garage door insulation kit from Lowe's is relatively inexpensive.

Why not get a reel for the shop vac hose? i know it might be a bit bulky but surely light enough to mount on the ceiling and it would make life a bit easier with a pvc pipe handle extension like your buddy's airline reel.
