I have been a Garageband fan and user for years and have released a few albums commercially (and a lot more just on bandcamp and the like) using it. It's a great program and the pre-loaded effects are great. Obviously as you've demonstrated you can take it to a whole new level! Great video thanks for the hard work :)

This is such a great tutorial! Once you get your guitar into your computer, you can make ambient guitar music. And even better, both the free tools mentioned are available for Windows and other platforms too, so you can use any DAW (free, inexpensive (Reaper, Cubase Elements, Ableton Lite etc.) or expensive, and do exactly the same thing. Thank you!

As a total lover of playing the guitar with delay units (from the old rack mount TC 2290 , Echoplex etc) & loving recording with the simplicity of Garageband, but never knew where to start with plug ins, found you by total accident - and Oh....what a brilliant You Tube find - this is a really informative vid, I have learnt so much - plus these are all the style of sounds I have been searching for! Thank you, thank you, thank you for introducing me a new little piece of ambient heaven ;0)

Great stuff as ever Bill. I'll have to check out Chow matrix. By the way, after watching many of your videos and jamming along on my flugelhorn (the long plays are great for that), I've got myself a baritone guitar! I'd never heard of them before I saw you play one. It's whole new guitar playing world. I'm now enjoying being in a haze of baritone ambience :-) Thanks Bill

It's also important that your guitar finish match the strap color and audio interface's color. That adds more saturation and shine to the sound for sure. LOL! :) Nice setup, sir - thanks for the videos! You are REALLY speaking my language with the sound you're getting in this video. Erik Wøllo, Jeff Pearce, and many more come to mind. That's GREAT!

That was a SUPER helpful video; thank you! So many times, you follow along to someone's video but there is some little thing or nuance that is off and it doesn't end up sounding the same for me. But your video was 100% spot on! It had been a while since I had played with GarageBand I just wanted to say thanks; I got lost in playing around with it and then just enjoyed playing for myself with the ambient tones you showed us how to get.

Thanks for this. I never thought to use GarageBand - I didn't realise it was basically a mini-Logic. Also thanks for showing it from start to finish. I'm going to try it out instead of Reaper - I'm not keen on its convoluted interface. As a side note, I'd LOVE for some music theory basics videos from you. You have a way of explaining things that I think would genuinely add to the topic on here vs. just being music theory content like everybody else's (which is almost never practical, even if it's understandable). New to channel so don't think I've seen any yet - if you do have some already.....would love more!!! ha. All the best.

@chordsoforion

Yes you can use a volume pedal. If you have a compressor pedal, I would do t he following: Guitar -> Compressor -> Morley -> Audio Interface. If you don't have a compressor, just plug the guitar into the volume pedal and then into the audio interface.

This is a great tutorial, and I love the recommended plugins, but setting them up on the "master" output applies the ambient effects to all of the instruments in the project, which does not produce the desired effect if trying to play along with drums & bass. At least, that's what happens on the version of GarageBand I'm using. I think to isolate the effect on just the guitar track, you would want to assign the plugins on the "track" control tab, to the left of the "master" tab in the bottom section of the GB interface. Thanks again! Subscribed and can't wait to watch more of your videos.

Is there a reason why you load the plugins into the output instead of on the track? Whenever I add them to the output (under Master) it screws up the click sound as well.

sounds like you could have an issue with the volume pot on your guitar or gain knob on the interface - maybe try using a little contact cleaner turn the knob back and forth a bunch to clean up the connections - it's amazing how many things i've "fixed" with Deoxit D5 cleaner
