wow. I didnt' know there were any live performances of him and Grisman. This is some of my favorite stuff. He really missed a calling as a folky. I mean, I obviously love his work with the Dead, but this stuff proves that he was the greatest rock guitarist ever. Yes, I put him past Hendrix and Clapton - MILES past them. Also, I have been playing guitar for 25 years, so I am qualified to say that. Had Jerry lived, I could see him going more in this direction. Instead of being in a huge rock band traveling to another city every night of his life... he could have settled down and done studio sessions of this sorta stuff. Think if we had Bob's Tri Studios and all its capabilities for Jerry to record and perform in. I miss you, you magnificent fat dead bastard. You were the greatest! You still are!

My buddy got me hooked on Grisman and Garcia in the 90's. Love the story of Jerry just wanting to jam with David at any hour. My friend always said he hated playing with the dead, his passion was bluegrass jamming. Pizza Tapes are named after jamming in the basement at all hours. Anyone here that story? Crazy Jerry is only 49 in this video. Seems like a ripened old singer of 40 years the way he delivers. RIP
@herbythechef7624

jerry absolutely did not hate playing with the dead or else he would not have led it for 30 years. jerry loved his boys he just needed a breath of fresh air with something different. realistically playing the dead is what was paying his bills so it was a job to him. but he certainly did not hate it.
@yawnzsolo948
Жыл бұрын
I also always heard that the Pizza Tapes were named that because one night when they ordered pizza, the delivery guy stole one of the recordings they had laying around and it went around in the bootleg circle and people referred to it as that. And then when they released it they just kept the name.
