I’ve owned a pair of Indian Star tortoises for over 15 years, raised from native-born specimens. This is the third season they’ve bred for me (6 eggs waiting to hatch.) Slight pyramiding of their shells is natural in certain populations of both Star tortoise species and (the smaller) Leopard tortoise.

Chris and Casey, you do such a great job of providing engaging, informative content! I used to live in the Sonoran Desert, so loved seeing the territorial turtle you have. (Love that head bob!) Love the star and radiated tortoises. Love seeing turtles and tortoises from the various places I've been (Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Middle East, etc.) As this posting continued, I stopped to look online for what is indigenous to Bulgaria. We returned last night from Sofia and the Rila Mountains, so I'm guessing that the Testudinidae might be at lower elevations??

Have you tried introducing Swift to a male bearded dragon? They could have head bobbing contests that could go on indefinitely! I am so jealous of your Syrian tortoises. I live in Israel, and the Negev tortoise has become completely extinct due to poaching and habitat loss. Because Greek spur thighed tortoises are native here, it is illegal to keep them in captivity, but it's fun to see them when you go hiking. I'm sad that you can't get an Aldabra or a Galapagos tortoise here, only Sulcatas. I really, really want an Aldabra.

Chris are the two star tortoises related to the radiated tortoises of Madagascar? considering Madagascar in India used to about one another way back when before 55 million years ago before India was shoved north and broke away from Madagascar I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't some sort of radiated or star type tortoise on the Maldives I think it's the Andaman Islands?
