Thank you for the garden tour; it is very inspiring. Here in my zone 3 we still have snow and frosts. This Summer’s project is a robust greenhouse which must be very sturdy due to high snow loads. We do have our field peas in. The garlic is up. All my fruit and nut trees are under planted with chives, garlic chives, alliums and dill.

@@HuwRichards Raw asparagus is divine, that’s how most of my last crop was consumed! I always remember a very early River Cottage episode where Hugh visited an asparagus festival in the UK. He was told that asparagus has just a three-hour window of peak freshness, after that flavour starts to decline. I fully believe this from my experience.

I love it raw! Almost nutty! Actually that is the ONLY way that my son and daughter will eat it - neither likes it cooked at all! Family story is that for years I kept planting new asparagus plants - 25 at a time - and couldn't figure out why I never seemed to be able to raise it. At the same time, apparently while my daughter was waiting for her school bus to arrive, she would browse through the green pea beds and asparagus beds every morning. By the time I would go out to harvest what should have been a goodly amount of peas or asparagus, there was none left! This went on for years without me catching her in the act! And with her refusing any and all cooked asparagus and green peas! Eventually she owned up to it!

Hello Huw, good to see a tour from you and yes water is something that we need to collect or use as little as possible, no water on our site so I am now up to around 13,000 litres of stored rain water which may last if we get no more rain and has you know the last few years we got rain just when we needed it. Have a great growing season my friend. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

Hello from Idaho 👋🏻. Love watching my 🇬🇧 gardening friends while I wait to get into my garden. Your garden is gorgeous. I’m growing a true peppermint that I got from RICHTERS nursery in Canada. It’s a true peppermint and I’m growing it in a 6’ round galvanized livestock trough that had holes in the bottom. Every year it gets bigger and I’m hoping that fills the entire container. The hummingbirds love sitting in it. Blessings, TeresaSue

Great to see how much you are growing and also that you are letting some of your plants go to flower. I have done with my cabbage, kale and mizuna and the bees absolutely adore it, plus I get vibrant colour and seeds. I do have a question about your chop and drop. In one of your other videos you mention about keeping the slugs away by not having anything on the beds that they can hide under, keep grass short etc. With dropping the leaves on the beds and leaving them there, have you noticed an increase in slug and snail activity, especially at this time when there are many seedlings and the slugs are hungry? Many thanks

I love raw asparagus, raw brassica stems, and raw leaves. Many of your brassicas have big, fat stems. Try cutting some off when you take florets, peeling the woody outer layer off, and eating the tender inside. To me, that is the best part of brassicas. Definitely looking forward to cost-free gardening. I have always used dropped leaves on my containers and beds and rotted some to feed the garden. I think it is right that was comes from the garden should go back into the garden.

I've been lucky there has been rain the last 2 evenings. That lovely slow steady rain rather than a downpour after such a long dry spell. I took the fleece off my brassicas planted in March as well as the onions and was surprised that the soil underneath was quite dry, so the rain we had had the night before hadn't penetrated the fleece to any great extent. I decided to water these and then last night more rain. Because of no dig, yesterday was the first time (with the exception of planting) that I have watered. I have noticed that my fellow plot holders (who dig) have been watering quite a bit lately. The soil, though, just a few cm down is quite damp, hence why I have held off watering and one less job to do.
