Chuck, our community association that we live in has defined our tree protectors as a (wire fence) and we are being fined after having them in place for eight years. we do not see them as fences and they are there to protect the tree's from deer damage. can you shed any light on our situation and do we have any recourse ?

Thanks. Very helpful. Is 4 ft height generally enough (vs 5 ft) to keep deer from both rubbing and eating young leaves (apple trees)?

Does it stop the deer from getting the leaves above

What makes them attracted to a certain tree? Their style, size, height? Is there any width or height where it becomes necessary and no longer necessary to do this? I'm worried sick about so e refbuds and japanese maple I planted at new property I did not cage them. 😰

Deer will eat whatever is available! You need to fence until the tree is well established for browsing and rubbing purposes

I plant a few trees every year, central Indiana, edge of town, lots of deer. I keep the cages on for several years, deer are persistent.

I think it’s smooth bark usually found on young trees but I’m not certain

Good video but I would definitely recommend safety glasses. You don't want to poke out an eye. The rolled up wire is spring loaded. Bad news!

Dear JA, Thank you for tuning in. I am sorry the season is not apparent. As noted in the title of the program, the video was recorded Oct. 12. That is the fall for northeast United States. Sincerely, Becky Robert Scott Arboretum
