In your video you are showing how to lock the unit onto the base/bell. When you rotated the unit back, you had to force the locking mechanism down. If you push in on the push tab, it locks into place without the force it took for you to lock it. Plus you take a chance on breaking that latch. This is the first of your videos that I’ve watched and I like that I can understand-every word you were saying. I look forward to watching more.

Thank you! One of the things I've realized by creating videos is that I always learn more by taking the time to post them and READ the awesome responses from folks like you. Once again, thanks for the tip! Cheers, Capt. John

Hey captain John, a quick question. On the back of the mount of the 106sv there is a ground connection. How important is it to run a dedicated ground back to the battery the unit is powered with ?

Good Video- Do people take the unit off while traveling to the lake or should it take the normal vibration?

I'm sure the Lowrance engineers have a point of view on this--here's mine: My HDS Carbon 12" is permanently mounted in the console of my boat, and I've pulled it thousands of miles with no issues. If you think about it, it's likely that the greatest impacts will be on the water (e.g. crossing wakes, whitecap choppy water, etc.), rather than on the trailer. With that in mind, I'd say its okay to tow with the device remaining on the vessel. Cheers, Capt. John

Hi how do you have this powered up in your house? The rear ports only allow for the cable in my boat to fire it up which means I have to sit in my driveway on the boat to work with the unit

Hi Surfliquid, Any time I purchase this type of equipment, I always purchase an extra power supply cable that I can plug into a 12V DC power source. In this case, Garmin actually makes a version of the power cable with a "male" cigarette lighter adapter. I use a small 12V DC AGM battery (lawn tractor battery) with a "female" adapter to supply the power--I can run for many hours with this configuration. For Lowrance or Humminbird, I just splice an extra power cable into a "male" cigarette lighter adapter and use the same power source described above. I hope this helps. Cheers, Capt. John

What is the difference between 102 and 106?
@sonarangler
Жыл бұрын
Great question... The display and internal electronics are identical; however, the 106sv comes with far more detailed Navionics+ charts while the 102sv only has the FAR less detailed "Worldwide Basemap." Given the choice (if you're using the device in an area supported by Navionics+), I'd take the 106sv every time. I hope this helps... Cheers, Capt. John

Is the screen glass or cheap plastic like most of Garmin? Thanks
@sonarangler
4 жыл бұрын
I'm not certain about the materials used (most of my focus is on how to use the device rather than how it is constructed), but I have not had a problem with it. The screen on mine has been exposed to quite a bit of weather and still looks new.

How is the g3 maping.......any good
@sonarangler
2 жыл бұрын
My experience with it (LakeVu G3) so far is very good. I can definitely tell that they have incorporated the data from Navionics (the charting company they bought a few years ago) and therefore the level of detail is excellent. I have not used BlueChart G3, but I have browsed through it a bit and it also appears to have brought in the Navionics detail--I would expect that the usability is similar to what I previously used from Navionics on a Lowrance device (which is to say very good to excellent). I hope this helps. Cheers, Capt. John

hi~ Can 106sv be set in Korean?
@sonarangler
3 жыл бұрын
I checked the Garmin website and it indicates Korean language support for the Echomap Ultra series of chartplotter/fishfinder devices. I'm certainly not qualified to test this type of support, but here is the text from the Garmin site indicating the support: "Korean (APAC/x5 models and WW BaseMap/x2 only)" I hope this helps...
