As a more casual user (I like tracking stuff but I'm not a big competitor) it looks like the fancy maps and improved screen clarity are the most tempting. I really like the new shaded Topo maps, on my 6x pro it can sometimes take a moment to differentiate what im looking at. The shading will go a long way to improving that (and making the digital map line up more with my paper topo maps i carry hiking) I'm also glad they brought the light down to smaller sizes and the Epix, gives more options in the future. I probably won't downsize from an X, but now with the Fenix, Epix and Instinct all available in the larger size with a flashlight my options have expanded significantly. I also like the split Map/data data field now, I can put my elevation and map data on the same page and reduce the count of pages to scroll through while hiking. Nice.

Wrist-based running dynamics is already in the current betas. As for the rest of the new features to the existing Fenix 7, they were saying 'next' quarterly update, but it's a bit fuzzy to me if that's the one going live shortly, or one later this summer. Waiting on clarity. My suspicion in the sooner one, since the firmware is literally the same between Pro and non-Pro units (meaning my Pro units have the same firmware as the beta for non-Pro).

Obviously it can record some of these activities now such as badminton and other sports like football, but I would really love it if it could record with more accuracy when I'm out running with my buggy cadence steps, etc because my arm will no longer be moving as much.... Once the wrist based running dynamics actually comes to the F7. I will see how it records my runs and with what level of detail.

My Fenix 5 has, after 4 years and 3 weeks from purchase, a real-world battery life of about 3 days now (100% to 0%), with 2x 35min jogging with GPS recording, the remainder just normal use as a watch, barely ever actively interacting with the watch (backlight off, turned on only via a keypress, gestures disabled, 8 sec timeout, 30% brightness). Is this kind of *severe* battery lifetime degradation over time to be expected even with the Fenix 7 / Fenix 7 Pro, or did they switch to some more durable battery tech in the meantime? Spending 500+ Eur (with the 7 Pro it will likely take a year to get down to around upper 500 / lower 600 Eur range) every 3-4 years seems a bit on the high side, for someone like me, who is using the smartwatch rather sporadically. And btw, I never use the HR data from the Fenix 5 on any high intensity activity recording (anything over 80% HRmax) - it's just total rubbish in comparison with my Polar H10 HR belt. Typically the Fenix 5 HR data is down by 20-30 bpm from reality, making "near-max-effort" activities look like I was going out for an afternoon jog-and-talk.

Hi! I think you might be wrong about the hardware-capabilities in regards to possible ecg function: the fenix 7 pro has not the same isolated metal ring like the venue 2 plus has. If you have a close look at the fenix 7 pro optical sensor, which is covered by glass, you can't see an isolated "extra" metal ring that sourrounds the optical sensor like the venue has. So from my electrical understanding there's no part of the backplate that could work as an isolated ecg electrode against the rest of the clocks body. But i would be happy if i am wrong. Best regards

@@Dcrainmaker i can see an isolation ring isolating the sensor glass from he metal body , which is electrically pretty pointless, not like the venue where a metal ring around the sensor glass is isolated from the metal body. But it could work for a simple 1-lead ecg when the orange metal around the start button is isolated from the rest of clock so that the whole backplate is working as one electrode and the orange metal as the other one. I'm just curious from a professional point of view. Whatever. As long as there's no fda certification ... !-)

Yes, most all of it. Here's the full details on what exactly is being ported: www.dcrainmaker.com/2023/06/the-complete-list-of-all-epix-fenix-pro-features-going-to-fr955-965-fenix-7-epix.html

Are people still having button issues on the pro? Especially after being in the ocean/surf? I've heard a few stories but wonder how common it still is. Don't want to worry every time. Otherwise I'll just go back to me trusty D1000 frogman or gwx-5600 g shocks 🤷🏻♂️

So with the new improved battery life in both the fenix and epix especially in the plus size which did you prefer? That’s the big question?

I tend to prefer the Epix.

@@Dcrainmaker would that apply to just the 51mm with all the battery life glory it brings or regardless the 47mm as well..

Still on fenix 6 sapphire , holding out longer for fenix 8 . Doesnt seem like enough to upgrade yet when my 6 works great still.

What’s the waterproof ness/shock resistance of this watch? Looking at the 7s pro sapphire I think…I go to the pool and off the boards a lot with my kids and worried it’ll eventually hurt it

Good watch, garmin does bit offer to repair the devices. Even when you scratch the screen you can only hope for their goodwill. They offer refurbished watches in exchange for the broken ones, but at really steep price points. I think this policy makes only sense when the watch is really damaged or malfunctioning, but not when the screen is broken and the prices garmin charges are excessive. No more garmin for me!

I'm trying to figure out the difference between 7 Pro Solar and Solar Sapphire. Only the display glass? Read somewhere that there is different material on the bezel🤔

To bad they messed up the "auto backlight", I don't need different light levels especially when in brighter environments. I only ever use 5% anyway and I need it to be on when in the dark and off when there is enough light to read the watch with ambient light.

Will the 7x saphire solar get the hill score edurance score and all that? I got an update today and came here to see if you've covered it yet. I really like these two metrics since I do a lot of trail running. It would be nice to have a downhill and uphill score seperately lol. Oh nice. I like the weather overlays. Im always with my phone anyways. To bad the only time id need it would be during activities.
