Oh boy oh boy. I have come a long way to find the perfect watch. Here is my story for who cares and who might be struggling. Yeah the struggle is real 😅. Purchased a Garmin 255s music. It was and is a fine watch but no training readiness. Something I really wanted to have. Also found that pacing was lagging quite a bit. At least my unit was. Other then that a perfectly fine watch. After that I purchased the Forerunner 965, had everything I wanted and needed but the size of the watch was way too big on my 17,5cm wrist. I found it to be completely out of proportion. The watch optically also seems even bigger due the design and bezel. Also as crazy as at seems I am not a fan of the amoled. Just don’t want that brightness in my face. It looks so popping and childish to me. Personal preference not trying to offend anyone here. Tried yhr Garmin 265s the proportions and size where okay but still that amoled was too much for me. Tried the COROS Pace 3 for a couple of days. Didn’t do it for me. And now I found the perfect watch the 955 it may sound crazy but that 1. Something millimeter in sizing makes a huge difference with the 965. This watch sits perfect on my wrist. Has all the features. Does not distract me with the amoled. It’s under the radar, rugged and also had the navigation and maps. Yeah finally got my unicorn watch 😍

I understand!! Tried so many and ended up with the 955 and couldn't be happier. Had the 265 but like you, I found the amoled display distracting and too "in your face". Also I prefer the true always on that MIP displays have. Also had the Pace 3 but that was way too small for my wrist and wanted something a little beefier. There's a few others I tried like Amazfit, Samsung..

If anything it helped me to solidify my conviction that all those gadgets are time consumming, costly and totalny unnecessary distraction with plenty of features that add very little real value to a runner. I choose to focus on breathing and let it guide me regarding my training regimen and I don’t think I need a watch to tell me if I slept well, if I feel more tired then yesterday or what is my body energy store level and the weather forecast for today 😂

Thanks for such a thorough review! One of the biggest reasons I follow your channel and read your reviews. Always top content! Really want one of these but 1) can’t trade in my old Garmin for the 20% discount till the 955 has been out for 6mo and 2) very curious to see what new products and features Apple releases in the fall (AppleWatchOS9 will finally give us a triathlon function!). My thought is if the Apple Watch stuff is good AND they address battery life I’ll stick with Apple. But if they do nothing about the battery life I’ll trade in my old Garmin for that 20% off a newer model and get the 955. 👍🏻 Competing in 70.3 and marathon events this year and 70.3, Ironman, and marathons next year so battery life will be crucial. Cheers!!😁

All + Multiband is also the winner for pace training or when you like to run an exact pace. With the other two the gauge will be really hectic and it is hard to have the right pace displayed. But the All + Multiband it is really stable like you would expect. For bike rides I take GPS, thats totally fine because your speed is much faster and the watch can calculate your position way easier.

Still no direct import of swim workouts from Training Peaks? I really wish this would be given more attention. It's a major PIA when compared to the Wahoo and Coros watches being able to import them with no issue. It's a shame walking into the pool wearing a $500+ watch, but your swim workout is written on the palm of your hand with an ink pen. As much as I want to stay in the Garmin ecosystem, it would really streamline my training to have the swim import on the Coros/Wahoo.

Like some have already said, always top content on your channel indeed! Just wondering about the value of Body Battery: you mentioned that you thought it is representative of how you felt. Assuming everyone already knows how he/she feels, is there really any value to be associated with the body battery indicator? Not trying to be negative here, I am genuinely wondering what metrics might make sense to me and which ones may be too gadety (and therefore what watch may be best for me).
@highseastrader4190
Жыл бұрын
It just gives you a more objective value than juste your feeling. All the metrics like body battery, sleep tracking, HRV, training load... are sorta useless if you know EXACTLY how you feel, after all. Same thing for GPS tracking : some people use perceived exertion and are able to evaluate the speed (or at least, the intensity) of their workout and don't need a watch either.

Great recap and explanations...thanks! Question for you and others here. With all the technology and features in the 955 it same like I should start using the 955 to collect all the data when I ride. Currently I use my 1030 to capture all the ride data and then that is uploaded (in my case) to Training Peaks, Strava, and Garmin Connect. To get the full benefits/features & insight that Garmin has developed would you recommend using the watch to collect the data and upload to the platforms and use the "head unit" as just a display then purge/trash after a successful watch upload? This has me thinking maybe someone (if they have not already) should make a "monitor" head unit that connects to the watch that could be configured to display any of the watch data fields or generated information. Or give the users the ability to run their Edge units in full monitor mode. With all that said maybe I should play around with "Extended Display Mode" on my Edge units..... I just don't believe it would be a full monitor mode. fyi using the term Monitor mode like the AV world does. ;) lol

I wish Garmin would prompt you for used gear also after (or before) a workout. It's always cumbersome to go and edit the activity with the mobile app / browser and change it afterwards. I would use the mileage tracking a thousand percent more often.

I really can't decide between 955 or VV2. I mostly use it for cycling since I'm not into swimming and I quit running after a knee problem. The new 955 appeals me a lot and seems to provide tons of info even if I suppose Polar does the same just compacting them in easier way to read. There are just 2 things that make me hesitant : I love the sleek design of Polar and I am scared to loose continuity in my training log if I change ecosystem. Still it's a tough match so that I can't decide. Any input? Thank you in advance!

This works fine for courses or routes I generate using the watch. I use Komoot and then export routes from that as a gpx file into garmin connect and then sync that to my watch as this works better than using the Komoot app on the watch. Thanks for the great review. Are the new hrv based training readiness scores not similar to the body battery metrics that already exist on the 945?

If I ever need to know how to configure my watch I just watch and rewind and pause your videos. I think I’m going to choose the forerunner 955 over the Fenix just cause I don’t feel like paying an extra 200 dollars for basically the same watch. I do like a little bigger style of a watch which I think those size is perfect. Should I go for the white solar?

Has the sleep tracking improved at all? Garmin sleep tracking accuracy has always been the worst. I hate how they base some of the readiness stuff partly on sleep since they are so horrible at sleep tracking.

I haven't really had any problems with it, at least in terms of time asleep/awake/etc (I don't focus on sleep stages as much). Ultimately, there's really no way to do any sort of readiness score without considering sleep - it's arguably (tech or otherwise) the most important aspect of recovery.

@Dead Weezel I've had the fr955 for a while now and while the 955 isn't as accurate as fitbit for sleep I can say the sleep score feels pretty accurate, and sleep score is what garmin readiness takes into account, not number of hours or sleep stages. Garmin also takes into account recovery time, hrv status, acute load, sleep history and stress history to base readiness. The time you fell asleep and woke up along with the sleep stages is better than previous garmins I've had, but the sleep score number feels pretty accurate based on how I feel. The readiness feels pretty accurate to me overall.
