For me it was just the difference in font size between the two devices that made the 265 less legible. I didn't notice any difference in screen glare, myself.

@fitgearhunter

I'm not actually, or unfortunately. I can't keep all of the watches in stock. But the build quality of the Epix is like 10,000 times better, specially the variant with the titanium metal bezel and back, and the sapphire screen. At the end of the day the 965 still feels like a plastic watch, so it's fantastic for light weight, but doesn't feel nearly as solid And thick.

I know you're reviewing the watches but can all that data sync to the Connect app on a smart phone to be viewed there? Also want to echo a comment below about your in depth analysis of the watches workout & training features. When you did your comparison of the 165 vs the 265 you used the words 'Training Companion." Exactly! Use AI to do an analysis on the data gathered to stitch all the variables of your health and training program into a cohesive, coherent whole, and then suggest changes, wait times or anything else that will maximize one's health and well being. And do all this without a human coach. Fantastic. You are the first I have come across to focus on the software with the whole picture in mind instead of the hardware and accuracy and the fluff of music and weather and texting/phone calls etc. Greatly appreciated. One thing I haven't been able to find out is if the 265 can run a HIIT program with audible cues. I jump rope and do 8 sets of 45 seconds jumping and 90 seconds rest. I use a 3rd party interval training program where I can pick time to work, time to rest and the # of cycles or sets to do. The value of this 3rd party program is that everything uses audible cues so there is no need to look at a watch which is impossible to do while jumping rope. I created a program in Garmin Connect that mimics this and runs on my watch. But the watch gives NO cues as to when to start each section. If it gave a countdown chirp I wouldn't need to run a 3rd party program. Does the 265 offer this?

How well does the compass work on either of these watches? I'm on my 2nd Fenix 7s, and the compasses on both were unusably inaccurate -- like 100 degrees off at times. Calibration didn't help. I'm wondering if this has been fixed on the 265 or 965.
@fitgearhunter
Жыл бұрын
Great question - I didn't test that aspect. I also haven't heard of other reviewers having an issue as well, but none reported issues w the F7 series either.
@scottotterson3978
Жыл бұрын
@@fitgearhunter It's understandable that reviewers don't test the compass, as most people run on trails, and probably ones they already know. But for bushwacking through the woods, or skiing on a blank snowfield during a whiteout, you really need a functional compass. On the Garmin Fenix 7 support pages, there are a lot of people that thought they were buying one.

What do you think about that instantaneous running stamina feature? That’s one thing I think might be useful during Interval workouts, but I’m wondering if it’s really worth it. Still debating between these two and trying to decide if its worth it. I have an older 200 series now and the reason I’m replacing it is because it doesn’t charge properly any more. I can’t seem to get a good connection between the charging cable and watch. So, my reasoning is with less charging, the 965 should last longer, if I go that route.

If on a budget and going to buy used, what do you think is the best overall between the 955, 945 lte, and the 265/255. I don't need music but I think I might like the training readiness which the 945 lte now has. Primarly running and tennis. Any thoughts?

@Peakabike

Great to the point video, thanks ! The 1.4" screen does indeed look a lot larger than the 1.3" and a display is never too large, especially to ageing eyes ;-) Thing is, as you point out at 9:20, the "best" metric is the "Body Battery", a one-stop metric that tells you all you need to know instantly. All the other ones...dunno. I've had all the FR9xx over the years including the 955 and I sold it before the 965 came out, because of the MIPS screen, but also because the crapton of metrics didn't always make much sense, especially HRV and what are you going to do with "Training Readiness" ? Run harder if it's at 75 vs 25 ? And I'm saying that as a competitive runner ;-) Same goes for Stamina, yeah, when short-term stamina is at 0 you're cooked, you already knew that ! So I went back to my Venu 2 with its gorgeous screen, with Body Battery and access to great CIQ DFs that can make up for Garmin's crippling of the watch (number of pages, number of fieds). Coupled with my Edge 530 in case I want to see my load (but I know what kind of balance my training should have, basically the good old 80/20).

@@fitgearhunter Yeah I'm a metrics freak myself but at the end of the day there are only so many that you can relate make good use of. I'll say the 1.4" screen of the 965 is really tempting too ! How right you are on below response! The additional size of the 965 makes the font size just enough to truly take advantage of the AMOLED on top. To be clear - EVERYTHING is clearer than the MIP displays - BUT - the 965 could even step it up a little bit on font size - I have the same problem and the text size is just barely enough, 265 a little bit too small. They TOTALLY have the pixel density to make it user-driven for larger sizes, but it is what it is for now.
