Hi there. Seems like you know your garmins. I am saving up for the tactix or similar watch. What are your thoughts about the garmin D2™ Mach 1 Pro? Does it have the same sensors? Which one would be more durable. I am a bit rough on my watches. Any suggestions ? How comfortable is the nylon band since you have wore it for more than a year. Have you tried the titanium band? I usually do not sleep with my watch on. I have the vivoactive currently. Thanks for your video. Not a lot of content out there on the tactix.
@TacticalOverlanding

Thanks for watching! The D2 Mach 1 pro isn't a watch I have experience with but I can tell you its basically the same watch in a different package. Both use Garmin's 1.4in AMOLED display and have very similar hardware with the exception of the battery and bezel. Garmins rates the D2 mach 1 pro at 25 days where the Tactix is at 31 days. I believe its due to the fact that the Tactix uses the enduro 2 battery where the D2 uses the normal Fenix battery. The other difference is the bezel and design, can't say one is better or not its your preference. If you need aviation features I'd say get the D2 as it fits your lifestyle more, if not go with Tactix as it also has some avation features. Durability wise these are both tanks and will very likely hold up to whatever you throw at them within reason. However, the titanium bezel on these watches do scratch easy. If you hit them on rocks or metal machines they will scratch and leave a mark but it will not effect the watch functionally. If want the most G-shock like watch I'd consider the Instinct but you do lose out on a lot of features. The nylon band is okay, even after a year its pretty stiff and I tend to use the lighter more flexible nylon bands from amazon or the silicon band it comes with. I haven't tried Garmins titanium band but I don't really like metal bracelets too much anyways.

Comfort silicon one destroys no question and it also pretty tactical looking . Its a well made, and harder than your usual silicone strap. Looks premium, feels premium. Nylson strap looks very tactical, goes really well with tactical closes. Problem its rock hard, like very tuff. Feels like one of those horse belt materials. But i wouldnt say it feels uncomfortable or anything. your dont feel it at all, pretty well made etc. Just hard to put it on quick. Titanium carbon gray DLC black band which i have is incredible in my opinion. Its super well made, sick looking. It makes the watch look pretty expensive, can go well it casual clothing. Its premium material, very comfortable. Easy to put on and the looks is just incredible. Problem is its expensive, but for me it was worth every penny. There are some minor differences like faster charging(also usb c instead of usb a), flashlight is improved, the HR sensor like you said. Other than that not really, I would choose these watches based on the display not the minor upgrades. If you like the MIPs display and can find a standard tactix 7 on sale I would go for that instead since solar doesn't do much in my experience. The AMOLED also goes into a “red shift” mode for nighttime (if you so desire). I had a Pro that I returned because the display was underwhelming and the solar function did not seem to be that great of a benefit for the cost of the watch. The greater cost of the AMOLED for the greater screen resolution and red shift are money better spent in my opinion. If you need a ridiculous Garmin GPS watch on your wrist. @@Justyburger Dude, I highly recommend to upgrade! At the same time, I’m somewhat hesitant due to hearing about that there will be a tactix 8 coming out, and I’m HOPING that it will also have the AMOLED screen. I also was hesitant in the beginning because it would’ve been nice to also have a google maps type feature to where the maps is similar to that of a Apple Watch, but after some thought, it’s not a big deal. I still plan on ordering the watch, but I’m also waiting to see if the newest tactix will come out. I’ve never had any type of smart watch, so I’m definitely excited!

@@alfredschnozzenstein1657 it is exciting :) my Instinct 2 is the first “smart” watch I’ve ever had. For the first few months I slept with the watch and found the sleep tracking very useful, but having the watch on 24/7 started to create a slight rash where the sensor is, so I stopped wearing it in bed. But…. I ocean swim and it’s very accurate on tracking my route, distance and various health stats. I also found the flashlight function to be very useful. Not a gimmick. If a Tactix 8 is coming soon, I would wait because even if you still get the 7, it will be a reduced price. I’d be tempted to remain with the 7 at a good discount because it is a big spend. As for maps, I’m not sure how they compare to Apple, but I various reviews, the Garmin maps look great. The big change for me will be touch screen and amoled display. The instinct is actually a very good watch still. It does most things.

Great detailed review on the night modes and lights. Question: Can you leave the amoled version in night mode and use it as an always-on-display? I think that would be quite cool. I also really like the red night mode and you could possibly use that in an always-on-display mode? I say this, because I like an always-on-display, but I also like 3-4 weeks of battery life. So you might say, just go for the normal Pro, but I think the amoled looks really nice in both of those nite modes. If the battery is really good and it has an always-on-display option, I'll definitely get the amoled over the Pro. The only thing that I would lack, is the solar capability. I currently do use a solar Instinct 2 and of course it helps but not massively and maybe not enough to make it a real game changer.
@TacticalOverlanding
15 күн бұрын
So unfortunately in night mode you can't have an AOD. I guess its to save battery and a glowing watch face but I think it would be a nice option to have. You can just set your sleep mode for 1 minute so the watch basically always stays on. The only thing about this is you cant have the super low brightness mode of the night mode. You can choose between 3 night shift modes - orange, green and red. All of these modes work in AOD so it does give the watch a very unique look.
@Justyburger

Thanks a lot for the informative reply. On balance, I think the amoled is my choice. It will also be interesting to know the battery life capabilities, using the various red shift AOD settings. I see this as a middle ground between the pro and the amoled. Basically having the beauty of the amoled with the stretched battery life of the pro. I guess the solar and amoled combination isn’t compatible. They would have tried it otherwise. Anyway, thanks again and I now have to prepare for the big spend :)
