Hahaha love the intro Tjommi, and that is spot on. It is really time GARMIN takes this stuff serious. I think GARMIN is the simple and easy solution, and you know exactly what you got, or maybe surprised you don’t get more. Either way, for navigation on road and down in the big city’s, I have had great help in GARMIN. But i really need to take a closer look at this option for future adventures. Can’t you just switch to google maps to get directions? Really well made video that explained a lot of the questions i had about it. The controllers look great when you learn where everything is. Hahaha, i will promise to learn you the proper Ååååhh, if you teach me how to trow up the tent 🏕️😂 😂 Cheers

I am a fan of this system but I got a unit with some hardware problems. You find out about a company when there are problems. I'm genuinely pleased to report that my first problem was fixed quickly. My biggest problem was sending the unit back as I live in Brexitainia. I had to send it back a second time and the Czech company said they'd send me a new one as I really didn't trust the device anymore. I'm happy to say this company, both in Portugal and Czech Republic are decent and honourable. They're also pretty responsive when there is a problem so my takeaway is this. A good system from a decent company. I had a bit of a crappy unit and the backup was honest and honourable.

For many years, I used a Ule ruggedized mobile just for navigation on motorcycles. It worked well with predownloaded maps, IP68. Connected to my motorcycle battery. But it was just a ruggedized mobile. Washelpfull, till it fell off from the RAM mount, and realize only when I stopped. This seems great product to have. Garmin Zumo XT or the Caper Iter Pad? If they are at least the same, I will change my setup to the Caper Iter because Garmin sux. Planing a trip is a pain and most of the time it does not find the address I need, at least not in Portugal where I'm from. Any information on this comparison would be appreciated.

I loaded DMD2 into my tablet. Even though i have not been able to use it, just playing around with it, really like it. One thing that bothers me is no no auto routte, and having to use that Garmin software to make a route and then load it into tablet. Running other android app, like radar scope (if call sig) will be a lot help as trips i take, weather can change in a heartbeat (bad storm reroute, well avoid anyway) Actually what i just said is not really correct. I can startup google map offline and use it for navigation if on highway. That's my plan anyway. Mostly i got it for the BDRs and other adventure tracks/routes. Humm, so i can play the music i have stored on my tablet also via handlebar controller ?

Cool. If you use the beta version it's updated at least once a week, often more. Right now it does have auto route with different riding styles etc. You can also control music since it has it's own controller widget you can place on the home screen. It's moving fast in development and it's getting close to perfect.

Interesting, I had thus far not heard of this app in the US (on X off road is the nav app we hear about here). That said the requirements I have here in Alaska would still favor my Garmin Montana 700i, as it connects to 2 GPS satellite systems, and the Inreach satellite communication network. We have very limited communication infrastructure in Alaska, so calling in for help in a bad situation, or encountering another rider or off roader (Jeep/side by side/quad/etc) in a bad situation is pretty critical if there is an emergency and we need to call in for Medivac for oneself or someone else. And having access to GPS satellites is important for accurate coordinates to send the Medivac team for said emergency's. I have found it more accurate than phone system GPS out in the bush (wilderness).

Didn't need to watch for that long to come to the impression that as far as a sat nav system Garmin doesn't have anything to worry about. Garmin of course is not just motorbikes but cars, cars and caravans, motorhomes and trucks with specialist systems for each. I checked the links for the needed hardware and it comes from 1000 euros to 1300 euros, a ZUmo Xt is probably around 350 to 400 euros. It looks like the developers have said, this is a cool feature and can we add it without asking do users actually need it. OBD link? my bike shows all of this info on the dashboard why add it to a sat nav. Handlebar controls? The BMW Navigator I had (badged Garmin) was linked to the bikes handlebar controls, I used them about half a dozen times in around 5 years. When I'm riding I don't need to fiddle with the GPS screen or settings or apps, I need to be paying attention to the road, spoken directions throught the helmet intercom does all I need. If i find that I need to alter or adjust something I will stop and use the touch screen, in fact I have it set to not allow changes to be made while moving. I normally position the sat nav to be further away than most people to discourage any attempts at trying to change thins when riding. Off road tracks are a waste of time for me as I never go off road I do longish distances on road and the Zumo does all that is needed without all of the fancy "features" here.

a perfect Video 🔥🔥🔥 the funny introduction hits the topic exactly: what do you need today to navigate - not just on the road, but for example the TET or a road book tour? I've also been using the CAPEITER for a long time - and with varying degrees of success. A few years ago, during the Hard Alpi Tour, the Bluetooth connection broke down and the device was dead. The problems associated with the power supply and the Android operating system have not yet been solved with the M8 connector either. Very annoying if you rely on it alone... And you have to give Garmin credit for that: the devices are very stable. I would never use an electronic road book in a rally, for example - and I'm not alone: paper is still used at the DAKAR! I'm curious to see which player will bring hardware that runs as stable as Garmin and includes the functionality of DMD2.

Hello Nomad Sweden. I've watched many of your videos on the Carpe Iter (CI) and DMD and would like your insight. I'm planning a cross-country trip across the U.S.A. and possibly down the Pan American on a DR650. It would be as much off road as possible. I've previously only used my smart phone and a TomTom Rider 550 for navigation, and both have worked well enough. But with this trip ahead of me, I was in between the Garmin Montana and the CI. The Garmin appears not to have POIs and city/highway navigation as a base map. It would be something I'd have to purchase. For the CI, it comes with Locus and you can really use any downloadable maps. What has been your experience with city and highway navigation without using your phone/sim data? I understand it is great with off road so I'm not worried about that. I'd like to use it offline or without data as much as possible, both in on and offroad. Thanks, Sean

Hi! DMD2 works very well offline. The main difference is that you don't get the super detailed directions like which lane to use etc. It shows where you need to go, that's all, but it's enough. Instead of the CI I would get the new DMD T-865x which is sold by Thork Racing. It's brighter, lighter and is made by the DMD2 team.
@seansterr7236
Ай бұрын
@@NomadSweden Thanks for the response! I just watched your video where you compare the CI to the DMD tablet and phone. How would you compare the holder and mounting brackets from CI and DMD. The DMD doesn't look like it locks it in as much as the CI does, though all reviews say it is very sturdy. And when you look at included offline maps, the CI has Locus world maps and the DMD would have their world maps included? And with that DMD world maps, you can search for any address or POI? I've been playing around with Locus and can't seem to do basic searches for addresses. For example, I can find a street but cannot look for a specific house number. I would like to understand the full specs for each map interface before I pull the trigger on a purchase.
@seansterr7236

Another question: I see you bought the DMD phone also for your Africa trip. Could you have taken your CI tablet and just hooked it up to your rented bikes battery or accesory plug? Or would mounting have made that too difficult since you have the special T7 mount on your personal bike? -Sean

@@seansterr7236 Choosing between CI and the DMD-devices you need only to look at the hardware. They are both android tablets and both can run DMD, Locus and any navigation app you want. When you have the tablet you can then choose which software you prefer. The DMD2 app works well offline but I am not sure about house numbers offline. You have lot's of POI's available in offline. I find the DMD T-865 more "refined", light and the new version is even brighter than the CI.

I want rugged, waterproof, easy to mount, handles ALL cell bands worldwide, AndroidOS upgradeable (not stuck on a shipped version), NFC, bright screen (1000 nits+). So far I've found the Hugerock R71 (on Aliexpress), which some of those boxes, however it's a 7 inch screen (8" would have been nice). I am just researching into this sort of tech at the moment, so haven't committed to anything. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Did not like it !! Did not like only 20 minutes 😂😂😂😂 I got the Samsung pad and the ADV Controller agree with you that combo is a game changer next to normal navigation. Got some thoughts about the iter pad but 900 ,- vs 400 .- for the Active 3 are many fuel fillings 😉 Also Agree with OBD it’s nice to have but i only need Speed on Street and the gear … I replace the ADV on the wheel position on my GS so i got it in reachable position 👍 Turn by turn navigation would be nice but on road in a hurry google maps does the job also cool 😎 And the bigger display helps to find some great ways left and right behind the trees 😂

I have tried the App since your first video you made a couple of years ago. It is very interesting but you said it is free to download the maps. Did I do something wrong? Because there is a 6 or 12 months subscription for the maps or a lifetime fee for it.

Maps and Roadbook work for one hour per day without buying anything. If you like them and want to buy it to use it for more than one hour then yes you need to spend some money. 100% of DMD2 profits are put back into the app development. Our primary objective is increasing the team to speed development.

Well, I stopped watching after a few minutes. Is it better than Garmin's? That depends, for me it is 100% useless. That's because I don't trust Google. So unless Apple stops making phones I will never use a Droid based phone. The amount of spying Google does and what they allow apps to get away with is unacceptable. Unless the developers come up with a version that will work with Apple devices, for me, Garmin is 100% better. Now, I do have to say that the intro was super funny! I give it two thumbs up! 👍👍

Thank you :) Well just now Garmin and DMD2 made a joint venture releasing DMD2 with controllers to run on Garmin Tread. Funny timing :) This way you could go google-less, but it's quite expensive. www.thorkracing.com/produto/tread-overland-edition/

Alrighty then. That's what I will get 😄 we all know that the shop bought navigators are rubbish. They are so road oriented. Phone have been the best option for a long time. Obviously there are some "real off road" navigators, but they work best when hiking and so on...

DMD2 software CAN NOT USE SD memory card to store maps on ANY device!!😢😮 My 1 MAJOR reason I will NOT renew my license! I run DMD2 software on a Samsung active tab3. I contacted DMD; their answer; "yes, it's Google's fault".

@@NomadSweden I do believe them, I'm just very disappointed... It is NOT something they mention in their manual, before one invests in software or hardware 😞 OsmAnd does not seem to have this same problem; they let me store map data on SD cards, so why can't Thorkracing with their software?? I need quite some maps, as I travel for long periods of time and plural countries... BTW thorkracing uses Android on their DMD2 tablet device, so would have the same problem as on independent tablets like my Samsung Tab3...

Great intro, Robert, and I hope it gives Garmin a wake-up call. That being said, I also have My Route App, which is also up there with the latest developments. I will, however, carry on with my 'old fashion' XT because all I really need is a map and direction to follow. The rest with all the buttons could be too distracting from enjoying the ride and views. Very interesting, though, and thank you for a great presentation.

Very, very good Robert, your production, story line and content are seriously good. Well done mate. 👍 Seriously though, I’m a Garmin XT user, what I’d like is Garmin to bring out a handlebar controller, so you can use it without taking your hands off the handle bars! It must surely be possible, judging by all the electrical pins on the back of the unit? DMD looks great, for you guys that have endless offroad tracks to ride. 🤛😎🤜
