Thoroughly deserved win. A great, very underrated actor that could’ve and should’ve had an Oscar win by now. His portrayal of Churchill was phenomenal and the film itself is fantastic. I hope he goes on to win the Oscar too now.

what you talking about ?! Brad Pitt is not the greatest actor in the world, no even close, there are many more better actors than Brad Pitt or atleast his level, Dicaprio for exemple, or Denzel Washighton, Heath Ledger for exemple with the role Joker, he touched the perfection with that role, why you think I have my id like this and the avatar pic, and I m not a fanboy of anyone, I just like the very best. To be honest with you Brad Pitt is a good actor but not better than DiCaprio or Denzel, Brad hype was created also bc he was with Angelina Jolie, lets be honest the hype was real, also bc he was/is a handsome actor (not gay lol). Tom Cruise another exemple, I think its better than Brad Pitt

I can't speak on behalf of Gary Oldman's behavior in real life, but I can speak on behalf of his performance in Darkest Hour as Winston Churchill and I'm glad he got the Golden Globe. He nailed the accent, the way he slurs Winston's words, the facial expressions etc. Winston Churchill had a powerful voice where you could not talk over the top of him, and Oldman was the perfect choice for that. This isn't the awards ceremony of "The Best Male of the year" it's "the best actor of the year" and he wins the actor category 100% perfectly! Well done Oldman!

If any of you would even take the time to look up the actual facts of Gary's so called "past behavior" you'd see that his "hurtful" words were taken out of context AND the assault allegations by Gary's ex-wife were made up and had no basis. Gary is literally one of the best actors of his time; Timothée was good, but Gary is greatness.

To all the Chalamet angry fangirls: Timothee gave a great performance, it was natural, represented his conflict, emotions and true feelings, and especially for a man his age, it incredibly impressive just to be nominated; but Gary Oldman is the one who deserved the award and also the Oscar, say what you want about the make up (which is fucking awesome by the way) but working with that much facial prosthetics is really dificult for an actor in terms of patience, and the hability to move your mouth, eyes, etc. Also, he fully became Winston Churchill from the way he moves, walks, talks, his mannerisms, and his facial expressions, while also projecting Churchill's energy and attitude; so you can't really say that he didn't deserved it. It's way harder to play a real person than a fictional one. So, re evaluate your complaints.

I just want to say. Stop it with the bashing against Gary Oldman winning. There is still the academy awards so hope for that. On another side note, that night was filled with surprises that were shocking. Also, Timothee can get a golden globe later in his career, a million one of those so who cares. Can't you just be happy with the fact that we had a lot of good films in 2017? and that there were many great performances. Also, if we keep on arguing we won't change the fact that Gary Oldman won. Just like the film Crash winning best picture at the oscars back at the 2000s instead of brokeback mountain. I also like to think that this mentality of focusing on what happened is really bad for us and Timothee. He was surprised that he didn't win and did actly humbly when he was applauded during the nominees announcement. People were telling him all the time that he will win and he didn't. Now, we are reinforcing that mentality. Social media can be infectious and in this age, it has led to mental health problems. I can't imagine what he's feeling right now if he sees these stupid comments over something that he can't control. I think we should reinforce a positive mentality because to be nominated for a golden globe against distinguished actors is a privilege. No really because his nomination shows that his of caliber. I feel happy just saying all this. Can't you think the same? And timothee if you are reading this then I want to say that you have reached heights an actor could only dream off. I am glad that I got introduced to you. I will watch all your work. From now on, you got yourself fan.

+ Maggie Silva I don't know why but when the nominees were announced. I got the sense that he expected it. Not that I say he's not humble. Actually he is. You should see him in that one google interview, the live skype session. He basically recommended a film by another actor over his and the interviewer was just shifting focus back to him. Like call my by your name, remember? I read his body language that's all. Maybe I read it wrong. My point with the comment was people expected a lot from Timothee. I hope that clears the air. I am worrying that he might read these stupid comments about him deserving to win more than him actually winning the damn award himself. He's till young.

+Kkaebsong 95321 Thank you! Plus, I have read around that Gary Oldman never a golden globe until his performance in The darkest hour. Many say he's a great A list actor. I agree. He also got one oscar nomination in his entire career and that was for Tinker tailor soldier spy. He deserves a win for best actor. This whole matter with Gary winning the golden globe and slowly understanding the reason why, just makes me satisfied with the decision and for good reason. He deserves it. To whomever wins, I will be happy with the end result.

I've seen just about all the major Oscar contenders of 2017 but the one movie haven't seen is the Darkest Hour. From what I've seen so far this past year Timothee Chalet's performance in Call Me By Your Name is just simply leaps and bounds above all the rest, for male or female performances. It's one of the most natural and beautifully nuanced performances I've seen in many years from any young actor and it's been almost a month since I saw CMBYN and I'm still thinking about it. I will be watching Darkest Hour soon so I can see what the buzz is on Gary Oldman's performance and compare it to Chalamet's.

I always find it remarkable the people believe in women regardless of all circumstances- yes we women can be abused, but we can also lie and screw everyone else over. Does no one think it suspicious that this “assault”, that happened 17 years ago, only comes out when Oldman is nominated for something incredible? Doesn’t the fact that all charges were dropped, his ex-wife stopped fighting and his children didn’t support her statement say that maybe he didn’t do anything wrong? Maybe it’s as simple as an ex trying to get back at him???
