Great interview! It's always fun to learn a little something from an insider on one of my favorite shows. The character Andy was like the eye of the storm, with everyone else so extreme and out there, and Mr. Sandy did a really good job of being the "sane guy" in a way which heightened the comedy. His observations about Ms. Smithers line up with the times I remember doing a doubletake when they'd light and film Bailey a certain way. She was straight-up gorgeous, the perfect Mary-Ann to Jennifer's Ginger. RIP, Mr. Hesseman!

They didn't ALWAYS hide Jan Smithers, certainly the audience was quite well aware, although its funny to hear a fellow actor say "stacked". At the interview Loni said they wrote the two women well together but a LITTLE friction would have been interesting between them. Although you can look at it from two sides, but as Bailey started dressing up and up, Jennifer Marlowe started doing the same, so maybe there was an undercurrent there. She lived around Halifax Nova Scotia for awhile and lived as an artist, then travelled to a lot of the world building homes for the poor. I think she had some mental health problems but then acting is a crazy profession, you have to be a little out there to begin with. But it was nice to see her at the Shout Factory panel discussion which is available on KZitem, she even gets a few sentences in. They usually say women don't age as well as men but in the case of WKRP the ladies fared better than most of the guys. Never did hear from Bucky Dornster again though. They got rid of the union man quick.....hmm.

WKRP was a funny show and it's a god damn shame it didn't' last at least another 3 seasons!! It deserved to but CBS screwed around with the time slot so much. The first 2 seasons it was on Mondays at 9:30 right after MASH where it was getting good ratings. Then for the last 2 seasons they moved it around to all different nights and times then cancelled it because of low ratings; well OF COURSE it got low ratings-viewers couldn't find it a lot of times. And back then the only way to know when a show was on was to look in the newspaper.
