Gary Simmons and Jazmyn Scott in Dialogue

#AtTheHenry
Artist Gary Simmons and LANGSTON Program Manager Jazmyn Scott sat down for a virtual conversation about the many avenues in which their passions for music (of Seattle and beyond) sit at the center of their creative and community practices. Framed by the exhibition "Gary Simmons: The Engine Room" (Apr 2 - Aug 22, 2021), their dialogue expands upon the intersections of visual art, music histories, and community identity, thinking through how personal memory and social nostalgia inspire their ongoing artistic and cultural commitments. Henry Director of Curatorial Affairs Shamim M. Momin introduces Simmons and Scott, sharing images from the exhibition to set the stage for their conversation.
"Gary Simmons: The Engine Room" programs are co-organized by the Henry and LANGSTON, an arts & culture organization that guides generative programs and community partnerships that center Black art, artists, and audiences and honors the ongoing legacy of Seattle’s Black Central Area.
