No I didn’t. But I always thought that because of the way the movie took the Vietnam war into the story something good had to come out of it. My father went two tours to Vietnam. I never understood why he went two times. He never talked about that time there. My mother was angry about how people would spit at my dad. She should have been proud of the men that got hero’s welcome coming home from afghan war but she never did. She said it was because the pain that the men felt never healed from the way they were received coming home from Vietnam. The pain must have been extra hard for the ones hurt mentally and physically. I’m proud of all of the men and women that serve our country. My grandson is now going through boot camp in the marine corp. thank you to all that have overcome so many obstacles for your country and for yourself.

@@wildbill7081 my beloved brother did two tours starting in 1968 in Vietnam as a Marine. He did the second tour because he wanted to go back because of all the losses he had witnessed. I don't know that he ever overcame his survivor's guilt. This was so much more complicated for these men and women than was let on. A finer person I've never known. Agent orange got him in the end as well as poor service from the VA. I wish there were some way to go back and educate the American people better regarding the sacrifices that were made by such young men that carried through their whole lives. They were treated terribly on return.

I am sure my childhood sweetheart would have liked to have done the same, but her father killed the entire family before she was able. Drove the family station wagon off an interstate overpass into Bayou Plaquemine Brule May 17, 1969. Six perished including the girl I'm sure I would have married. As a veteran I knew of his tireless work for US veterans for many years. He is one of the few famous people who care about those who sacrifice so much so that we can enjoy a (relatively) peaceful & free society. I am however forever jealous that the US gets many amazing celebrities to champion their cause. Being from Canada, our society, & our celebrities, could not care less about our struggles against government oppression & systemic mistreatment of us veterans. Since no celebrities care about us, we have no voice within society because Canadians have very little respect for the CAF, or us veterans.

Well said, thank you so much for sharing your message. We didn't know that the society and celebrities are like that in Canada 😥

Have you seen of mice and men with John Malkovich? I highly recommend it if you have not. Classic like the Steinbeck novel.

He's one of the few actors that doesn't overwhelm the role with his own personality or become more important than the part he's playing. There aren't many these days where the characters more important than the actors. It's part of the problem with films these days.

So wonderful the work Gary & Tom & all that help in this very important work. Needs to help ALL VETS to have them treated as the hero’s that they are. All of our heroes need to be put FIRTS and with more respect than they do. Keep up good work. Thank you!

🔹️Forest Gump was a brilliant movie, no doubt about it. A work of art & a technical masterpiece IMEO. Up there with all my other favourite films, a Clockwork Orange, On The Beach, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon 2 & Terminator 2. Forest Gump is in the Top 200 IMdb list, but it's definitely in my Top 20 & I have over 300 Blu rays & DVD's in my collection. Both Gary Sinese's & Tom Hanks greatest performances

Hey Facts Verse, you forgot to mention that Gary Sinise was also in the movie "Ransom" with Mel Gibson. Which he was very good in.

Gary Sinise change for me after seeing *Ransom.* I honor this guy for what he has done for the military & our country. But he'll always be that dirtbag Detective Jimmy Shaker to me.

I didn’t know about his philanthropic works. I wish they, and others like them weren’t needed. The U S should have been taking care of our soldiers and the people injured in the terrorist attacks on 9/11 all along, negating the need for philanthropy.
