The Gaslamp Quarter is a Historic District in Downtown San Diego. The area is an entertainment and commercial area adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center that is within walking distance of major hotels, the bayfront, and the San Diego Padres Stadium Petco Park.
Early in the history of this community adult entertainment, bars and other commercial services were a major part of the area. Redevelopment was initiated by Alonzo Horton in 1974 to change the character of the district yet maintain the unique architectural character of the buildings.
In 2004, just outside of the Gaslamp Quarter - the home of the San Diego Padres Petco Park was opened next door to the district in the area known as the East Village. The Gaslamp Quarter is the gathering space pre and post game for San Diego Padres fans with the various bars and taverns hosting festivities.
In 2023 the City made vehicle access to the Gaslamp Quarter on Fifth Avenue limited to morning daytime hours allowing night hours to be closed off to cars thus creating better pedestrian access to the area from Broadway to K Streets.
This footage was captured during a night time walk on Cinco De Mayo Weekend 2024.
