Thank you Chris. I love alligators and crocodiles and this video taught me some things about their senses I didn’t know. I didn’t realize they have a homing instinct. I believe bears do as well because here in East Tennessee if a bear is relocated, it will find its way back to the Smoky Mountains. Please hug Casper for me. He is so adorable.🐊

I loved Aries spitting out the lobster but Toothy taking it. It would be cool if you could inter-cut clips into these videos to show it better. I also loved the Facebook video where you fed the EHP gators crab legs. I forget which one but one of them spat it out and went underwater to wash his mouth out cause he hated it so much. But then the next gator took it no problem! So interesting.

What’s the frequency range they hear? Is it above and below human range, which is 60 Hz to maybe 15khz, when your young. Bats for instance go way higher than humans and and elephants go way lower.

😂😂😂I feel like everytime Casper gets a leaf, or a stick in his mouth or on his face; It be funny to make the leaves and sticks into a crown to put on his head lol!! But I bet if you did that he would expect extra biscuits for that lol!!! But I have been binge watching your videos; In which I am learning so much. Not to mention I love reptiles; And I think gators are adorably dangerous, and fascinating at the same time. I work at the Nashville Zoo; And we have one alligator half the times it is just basking in the sun everytime I go past its enclosure. Also when I play Red Dead Redemption Online I avoid hunting the gators on there; And when I see a baby gator I usually swim with it 😂😂😂Then I get eaten by the mama gator lol. But I would LOVE to do an underwater tour with Casper someday.

I'm pulling this completely out of thin air, but my guess with the vision thing is that they value timing/speed much more than exact location. So if something splashes beside him or flies his way, he'll focus on timing and/or biting fast and hope his big ass mouth gets it which he often does.

senses is a bit of a weird word. because usually people mean sight hearing smell etc. but there are like 30 people forget. like the sense that allows us to know where our body is in space. and the fact we dont need to look at our legs to walk.

I can just hear Dr. Grant saying (erroneously, that ONE palaeontologist got his pet theory into Jurassic Park, thankfully for Lexie, Rexie didn't disbelieve him!) "they can't see us if we don't move." I was going to say sight has to be good because of this vid of a gator being a very good boy and helping curb the wild hog population, but you also mentioned they can scent-lock onto things out of their vision, so maybe not. A BBC article I found on Aussie crocodile (not the same, I know) say salties/freshies have different numbers of cones/rods to skew towards the colour the water would likely be (more blue in salt, more red in fresh), and that they don't have as good of a sense of detail as we do, but their eyes are very receptive to light shift (hence grabbing things flying overhead) and arranged so they can sit still and get detail over the whole of the horizon instead of needing to move their eyes/head to focus on things. So maybe a combination? They can see enough to get around, but rely on movement/smell/touch to get a real good lock on something? kzitem.info/news/bejne/1oqk0oZ5imqXdXY
