From the looks of it. the Gavotte is the ancestor of the Ballet.

Thanks to Carly Simon, now I know that it’s so vain to watch oneself in the mirror dancing a gavotte 😊

I was looking at the lyrics, couldn’t remember what was ‘apricot’. Then saw the name of the dance, and well - here I am 😂

The dance is faithful to the period and music?

No, not at all! The choreography is a fantasy of classical ballet steps.

@@saltator1802 I don't know why to say NO so cathegorically. The "gavotte" is a popular French dance, it was introduced in the French Court some time in the XVI th Century. It was present in the Baroque Suite (Bach, Tellemann) and there is no reason why it couldn't be choreographed in a classic Style: The Académie Royale de la Danse was created in 1661. Lully (1632-1687) composed at least a gavotte which is also in KZitem. It was very popular in the Court of Louis XIV (1638-1715), Gossec lived between 1734 and 1829, he was not beheaded neither went into exile, he had Advanced ideas and he contributed to the Development Wikipedia: Elle fera le bonheur des bals du xixe siècle et entrera même dans le répertoire de l'armée, devenant une épreuve obligatoire pour obtenir le brevet de « prévôt de danse ». C'est á dire that it will be loved in 19th Century Balls (ex. those danced in Jane Austen's novels) and it was taught in the Millitary school. Prokoffieff composed Gavottes and he introduced a Gavotte in his classical symphony (1917).

@@Bzcenci812 The question dealt not with the music, but with the choreography, which has absolutely nothing in common with historically documented gavottes from before the 20th c, but rather shows every sign of someone simply putting his/her favorite steps to the music in a fantastical way. BTW, Wikipedia is not a serious source!

@@saltator1802 I disagree with you about Wikipedia, anyway, I consulted other sources too. My point is that, as the gavotte found it's way from the old French villages to Bach, Lully, and the French Court, and later to Prokoffieff, why wouldn't it be danced by "putting favourite steps to the Music".

@@Bzcenci812 We know very well what the gavotte looked like from c 1700 to the 1830s. These dances have been reconstructed from notation, are now widely performed, and any choreographer willing to work can now create a historically informed gavotte (or minuet, bourrée, courante...). The choreography in this video is fluffy, based on nothing at all, hence it is *not faithful to the period of this particular music, which is from the late 1700s.* That's what Héctor Graterol was asking about.
