Gawai Dayak is a festival among the Dayaks to give thanks for a good harvest and to ask for the same in the next year's.
The Dayak people include the Iban, Bidayuh, Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit and minor tribes of Sarawak.
Gawai Dayak is celebrated with much joy and enthusiasm with family members, from where ever they are, coming back to the rumah panjai (longhouse) or kampong (village) to be with the elders.
This is also one of the best times to visit Sarawak where traditions of rituals are observed during the celebrations.
While modernization has caught up with the young Dayaks, efforts are in place so they do not forget their roots and the culture and traditions of the Dayaks to not fade into the sunset.
This video was taken of celebrations of Gawai Dayak at Rumah Stambak Ulu, Betong where our hosts: John & Norina, Patrick & Nina, Magdaline Wilson, Valerie Pawa, Stephanie Dimah & Mitchell Adrian Nanang showed us a great time.
