“Gaza is making us think about what nationalism really means.”
Epidemiologist and war researcher Les Roberts tells @el.sayyed that borders and nationalism have become barriers to our compassion, but people are waking up to the fact that we all have responsibility for the children of Gaza.
Dr Roberts smuggled himself into Iraq in 2004 to document the death toll caused by the US-led invasion. His findings that between 100-600 thousands civilians had been killed was dismissed and scorned by his government at the time, but quietly changed the way the military conducted its actions later on.
He describes many similarities he sees with what he saw in Iraq and the ongoing war in Gaza, especially the devastating effect it’s having on children.
