My father sold his car and got the 2018 model. He absolutely loves it! He got saddlebags and rides it everywhere. I take it for aspin when i can and am really impressed with the quality. The brakes are great and the key is a non-issue. He stores it in his livingroom instead of the garage, lol. It's like art to him, who at 65 and not really a bike rider for the last 40 years, it changed his life. He can't stop talking about it and that's pretty neat to me!

Great review Court, I always learn something. The fact that it was raining at your review locale underscores the Gazelle's sales proposition; a safe, comfortable, fully-equipped ebike you can ride rain or shine, 365 days a year, from right off the showroom floor. The LED built into the rear fender is sweet. I'm loving that Grace Silver color on the Gazelle website.

Hi Court, again very thorough review! I'm from the Netherlands and seeing you guys selling/reviewing Dutch bikes like Gazelle makes me feel good =) We do have a long bicycle history and ebike sales have rizen so much in the last decade. I think it's great to see the same trend in the US! I've travelled the west part of America and we took 2 bikes with us and if I've could have done on ebikes I would just because you could go further and thus see so much more beautiful scenery. In a lot of ways better than a car. Ps the cafe locks and the key sticking in is indeed standard, don't know why but well, unfortunately in the city you always have to lock them (preferably with a 2nd lock) so we lock it standard almost by nature ;) Ps 2 Beixo also makes pretty cool (e) bikes/folding bikes but not with a chain or belt but with a cardan (if I spell that correctly) Don't think they sell in the US yet but there's a store next to my street (de Bilt) and I think they are worth looking at. Marvin M I guess it’s so common in Amsterdam for someone to grab a random bike for a joy ride, the cafe lock helps prevent that. I agree you’ll need additional lock. I checked out the Beixo bikes. They use what we call in the states a shaft drive. It’s pretty cool and we have some bike share bikes with this system as it’s low maintenance. It’s a little heavier and a different feel, but cool nonetheless. Come say hey if you’re ever in the NY or LA 😎

@@newschoolnerd shaft drive yes! Thanks Chris =) I own a normal shaft drive Beixo and it does feel a bit different and when I tried out the electric version, it felt better to me, but hey it's electric ;) We do need to lock our bikes at all time in the cities. My Scott Venture Ebike a few weeks ago. The one time I didn't attach my bike/lock to a fence or lamppost.. Hopefully in 18+ months we can travel again to your beautiful country and if I'm around I woukd love to visit your shop! Kudos to you for also including Gazelle in your collection. Regards Marvin

Great real-life review showing the rain. I'd never use the "water bottle" bosses for water bottles on a city bike. These days, mounting a water bottle is an old school idea for road racing. We all carry water - but it'll be an old-day sized hydroflask type that melds into the city biking lifestyle, not a bicycle plastic water bottle. I'd thrown the water bottle into a pannier. On city bikes I'd want the bosses for mounting folding locks, pumps, etc.

15:52 - leaving the key in the ring lock is by-design and it’s a very good idea. It stops you from forgetting your key and if you have your key, it means your bike *is* locked and makes much, much more sense. Who wants their bike key on a keychain with other keys? No need for that.

i sell the Gazelle bikes in the shop I work. The bikes are great, only issue at this point is that the rear fender tends to brake at the top of the rearlight attachment. Replacing the fender takes about 2 hours and a partially outbuild of the motor. Gazelle is looking into this isuue at the moment to fix it on future bikes

The reason for no bottle cage on the low frame/step thru is because the point of step thrus is to get off/dismount them by sliding your leg thru and get off one side with both your legs on the same side... if you put a bottle cage there you can hit it with your foot or leg and fall...

Hi! I wonder if the Gazelle bicycles allow you to ride fast on a flat terrain, with Power off...because of the heavy frame, I'm afraid we can't. And, also...When we are running fast, can we turn the Power on and speed up so that we could beat the red traffic sign? On my Yamaha PAS CITY-V, it's impossible to speed up when we turn the Power on.

Beautiful bikes, but I just can't justify the price tag. There are so many bikes coming out now with solid, even though they're off the shelf, bafang components for a whole lot less money. I found a cool bike called the Wing Freedom that is a perfect example of this, and there are many others.
@newschoolnerd
5 жыл бұрын
imsigningin different strokes for different folks I guess. I’ve heard this argument a lot and it’s totally understandable. We no longer offer Bafang bikes in my shop due to poor reliability, quality and support. For many they are just fine, but they don’t offer the quality experience we’re looking to deliver. Our experience with Bosch has been quite the opposite and for a rider and a shop the experience is quite valuable. I would look a bit deeper at the Wing Freedom bike which seems to be a knock off of a Vamoof bike. I don’t mean to offend you if you own that bike, but I hope you see some of that there is more to these bikes than specs and price. Some of the most important details I have found in the business is reliability and long term support which is part of the whole experience of ownership. These are often overlooked, but we try to educate where we can so others can avoid expensive mistakes.
@imsigningin

@@newschoolnerd Thanks Chris. What kind of issues did you have with Bafang? I feel like so many bikes use them now they're must be a good reason. I don't own that bike, but i tried it and liked it a lot, honestly was more fun to ride than Vanmoof and for a fraction of the cost.
@newschoolnerd

@@imsigningin Many brands offer them as it's a good low cost solution. Bafang is a massive company and one of the largest motor suppliers in the world, but after working with hundreds of their motors and seeing the percentage of failures it stopped making sense for us. We were doing mostly conversions with the BBS02 and the common issues were gears breaking, controllers burning out. Bafang offers practically no support and that's just not how we want to do business. Other bike brands and shops jump through a lot of hoops to dress things look pretty, but the reality is it's kind of a mess on the back end. I hope this eventually changes in the future as it would be great to have more reliable sources but I'm not that optimistic. Most manufactures don't share this vision especially if they can get away with selling products without supporting them. I don't want to make you feel bad about your bike or to hurt other companies, it's just that we have a different vision and strategy. It's not that ours is right and theirs is wrong, it's just different.

Actually,the key staying in the lock is a requirement for theft insurance. Because you have to show you have both keys, to prove you actually locked it. As these locks are pretty worthless, it is kind of a stupid requirement I think xD Anyways, I have a hook on my key chain that I can slip my key onto easily, so it works for me.

Hi. Yes, these hydraulic rim brakes have equal braking power / better modularity compared to disc brakes. Moreover, these hydraulic rim brakes need much less maintenance and are less fragile to the more urban environment. The brakes are will protected behind the forks. Nothing can hit them and stop you from braking or causing squeaky sounds :-)

In my experience, rim brakes dissipate heat better because of the increased surface area.

Hey Gazelle, this is America put a throttle on your bikes. How long do i have to wait? Pedal assist and throttle is the way to go, in my mind it is no contest, pedal assist vs throttle, i want both. And why are ebikes so expensive, the best selling Honda Motor Sport 125 sells for thirty six hundred dollars. Having said that i have two ebikes and i love them.

Hi Mike! We are dedicated to working with our partners, Bosch and Shimano, for motor systems. They produce an exceptional quality product that is reliable - meaning 10 years down the road you will still be able to get replacement parts or a battery. We feel at this point in time there is no throttle/pedal assist system that is reliable enough to put the name Gazelle on. In regards to pricing, there is a lot of value that goes into the price - a complex motor and battery system, a quality frame and paint, fenders, lights, a rack with straps, a chainguard, a lock, grips, a bell, an adjustable stem, hydraulic brakes, high quality gears, and much more. A lot goes into these bikes :)

@@royaldutchgazellenorthamer1554 Thank you for your reply, i can now direct my ire at Bosch/Shimano. I have been riding a Pedego pedal assist, throttle ebike with 3200 miles on it for the last three years and would never ride a pedal assist only, too bad because i rode one of your bikes and it was a nice machine. I read that NYC delivery riders prefer throttle over pedal assist and i well know why. Safety alone would dictate throttle It is only a matter of time before Bosch/Shimano comes around or are replaced by a company that gives the customers what they want. This is America and i consider ebikes the best invention in my lifetime. For the last five years i have used only one tank of gasoline in my car per year. What a joy not to drive a three thousand pound bucket of rust. Hey Bosch/Shimano get with the program.

@newschoolnerd
5 жыл бұрын
VerdonTrigance the bike can operate in these temperatures, but can’t charge under 5 Celsius. You will usually see a bit less range in colder temps, but otherwise it’s not much of an issue. Some will cover their batteries in colder temps with a neoprene sleeve to help keep it from freezing and this helps mitigate the effects of the cold temps. From Bosch “To extend the service life of the Bosch PowerPacks, the batteries should be stored in the house at a temperature of 5 to 20 degrees Celsius - dry and protected from light. In addition, it is advisable to not send the batteries into hibernation either completely discharged or fully charged. We recommend a charge level of 50 to 60 per cent” I hope that helps answer your question.
