Nicole Grinnan, M.A.,RPA, Assistant Director of University of West Florida’s Archaeology Institute speaks on the “San Pablo” shipwreck in Pensacola Bay. Amid rumors that the 315-foot ship was related to Soviet espionage, it was nicknamed the “Russian Freighter” but was actually a remote controlled crash-test dummy for a military explosive. Ms. Grinnan shares an interesting once-classified 1940s video of the steamship showing its disguises and use by the U.S. government in its top-secret operation. In 1944 it was exploded nine miles off the Pensacola shore, and lies 80 feet under water where scuba divers now explore.
