Hi Freesciencelessons! I just got my GCSE results yesterday and I got straight 9s in all my sciences! This is all down to you! Your videos are always super insightful and helpful and you’re great at boiling it down to just the pure facts. I’m going on to to Biology and Chemistry for A-Levels and I must say I will be watching all of your A-Level videos! You are truly the best!!!!!❤❤

Just wanted to say a big thank you - two years ago my eldest son used your videos for his science revision and was the only person in his school to get A* in all 3 Sciences. My youngest son has used your videos this year and just received 9's in all three of the Sciences! They both used your site only to revise from - a massive thank you! We have recommended you to lots of others. My youngest son is now starting Chemistry and Physics A Levels - you are not planning on doing A level revision help are you?
@Freesciencelessons

Good morning. Please pass on my congratulations to your son on this three 9s. I'm happy that I could help both of your sons to achieve the grades they wanted. I will be making A level Chemistry and Biology videos starting in December (infact there are already a handful of A level Chemistry videos already on from a couple of years ago). I'm afraid that I have no plans to do any Physics A level videos as I've never taught Physics A level so I don't think I'd do a good job. Best wishes and thanks for the message.

Hi. When measuring the pH of water, wouldn't it be more efficient (in time) to use a pH probe instead of the universal indicator?

Most schools in the UK do not have a class set of pH probes so universal indicator is more realistic.

To test if the water is pure could you pass an electric current through it and if it doesn't conduct the current then it must be pure. If it does conduct the electricity then it must contain dissolved substances. Would this test work?
@Gamer-mm1xv
6 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty certain that other molecules may be in the water which do not conduct electricity and so it would be impure and still wouldn't conduct, So I dont think that this method is viable.

Sir i'm a bit confuse because you said: the pure water has the pH of 7 at 0:48 but at 1:37 it says: if the pH is 7 then that does not mean that the water is not pure
@Freesciencelessons
5 жыл бұрын
Pure water has to have a pH of 7. However, that does not mean that water with a pH of 7 is pure. For example, a solution of sodium chloride may have a pH of 7 but it's not pure water.

U only use a sample of the water, not all of it
@qjaja5547
3 жыл бұрын
Basically, you don't record the mass of the basin WITH the water in- you record the mass of the basin when it's empty. Then you put the sample of water in and evaporate the water. If the water was impure, anything that is left behind will be salt crystals, and if you were to weigh that the mass of the basin would have increased. (As it would now be mass of empty basin+ mass of crystals). Hope that helped!

Wouldn't the the mass off the sample decrease? As the water leaves but the dissolved substances remain?
@ghina9491

bOi you measure the mass of the evaporating dish without water at the beginning. Then you put water and evaporate it then measure the mass of the dish again (in other words you measure it without water in it at the beginning and end of the experiment). So if crystals form then the mass should increase. Hope it makes sense and good luck tomorrow!

Can someone explain the safety issue in the second experiment? My teacher said something after breaking the conical flask if you didn't removed the bung first when the heat is cut.
@Freesciencelessons
Жыл бұрын
If you boil the water so the flask is dry and then turn the heat off, water can be sucked back into the flask from the boiling tube. When this water hits the hot glass, it can break. You should lift the flask up so that the delivery tube is not in the water, and then cut the heat.
