The city's original builders were Germans, who were ethnically cleansed between 1945-1950. Poles did not build this city, they simply appropriated it.

The original settlement was West Slavic - Lek = Polish. Gdansk was the primary port of the Polish Kingdom. The city old town was originally built for Dutch Merchants from Netherlands. Designed by architects from Holland.

@@metanoian965 when all Western Slavs are automatically "Polish" - then all Western Germanics, including Dutch, are "German" = it would be the same weird logic. The city grew and prosper as a wealthy Hanseatic city and through hanseatic merchants, in a time when national identies like Netherlands or Germany were not fully developed. There is nothing to be seen from an alleged original western Slavic settlement for a tourist today. Hardly anything from the Old Town (Altstadt) is even shown in the video. What Nick showed is the Main Town (Rechtsstadt) and a bit of the Granary Island (Speicherinsel).

@@henningbartels6245 Germ weird logic self serving nonsense. You know O about the name Poland and Slavia unto the Elbe River. There are many Slavic town and district names in infested and germanized West Slavia. Especially along the Baltic Coast. All these belong to Poland and must be returned today.

@@metanoian965 yes, true nonsense of yours. West Slavia and Poland are two different pair of shoes. Do you tell this stuff to Czechs or Slovaks as well - that their lands are "actually Poland"?!? Yes, some names in Eastern Germany are based on Slavic term - but this doesn't mean there was always a Slavic town at all. Often these names are based on toponyms - so names for a swamp, woodland or hill that used to be there before the town was founded.

@@metanoian965 German revisionism might be a fantasy in some heads, but Polish is obviously a lived reality. Prussia and even Royal Prussia was never Poland either, but negoiated priviledges and acceptet the Polish king as a ruler in return. The king of Englang is also the head of state of Canada - but this doesn't make Canada a part of Britian automatically. It is sad to observe how little Polish commentators know about the history of the places where they live today. How can you identify with those place, when you deny their history?
