I spent a year in Gdynia, 2001-2002, and loved it. Good hotel right on the beach, and found an English pub just back from the harbour that sold Watney's Red Barrel and cottage pies. Some years later I also watched an Eric Clapton concert on the beach close to the harbour - that was excellent too.

In his early career Captain Cook worked on trading ships in the Baltic

There was an English ship "General Carleton" which was bulit in the same shipyard in Whitby as "Endeavour" of James Cook and was almost identical. She engaged in Baltic trade transporting goods between Riga or Stockholm and English ports. She sank in a gale close to the Polish coast on the 27th of Semptember 1785 during a return trip from Stockholm. Captain William Hustler and 17 of her crew were lost, 3 survived. Her wreck was discovered in 1989 and later many items, including astonishingly well preserved spare clothing of her crew were recovered and can be seen in the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk.

You are incredible! I haven't been to Gdynia for 20 years (live 3 kms from Warsaw) and thanks to your videos I can see how much the town and Poland has changed. I used to go there (to Gdynia) 5 times a year in the 80/90 ties. The cross is easy to access from the town, one of the main streets, you just enter a park and go up. Easy to walk up and there is a beautiful view over the port and the ships (as far as I remember). Good luck with you journeys. Yours are one of my fav vlogs now.

Interesting fact about Gdynia. Blofeld, James Bond's arch villain, was introduced by Ian Fleming in the novel Thunderball where he is described as being from Gdynia. Unsure why Fleming chose Gdynia instead of any other Polish city. Perhaps he just liked the sound of it.

The German name (was and) is Gdingen, although the Nazis renamed it Gotenhafen as the old name was too similar to Gdynia for their liking. It was called Gdynia when it was part of the 'Polish Corridor' between the wars. It was actually part of Pomerania, not Prussia.

Not on the local map (but on Google), that is not good; how are they going to generate any revenue from it if it is not advertised or there are any signs of it. Maybe the construction in the area will address this.

The Catholic Church in Poland has a special place in its history and culture - people centered around it during times of opression (both when Poland was partitioned and later during Communism). A good number of priests became martyrs for the Polish cause.
