Hello what was so frustrating is the fact that our home was built in 2016 and we just started using our GE dishwasher in 2023 (thought it would use more water 😔 we were mistaken) and it started first collecting water in the bottom that resolved. Then I came across this video and I have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! We started researching new dishwashers and it was scary so many poor reviews didn’t want to be out of money. We purchased the tub side latch (Amazon) and husband installed it the dishwasher is working thank God! Saved us hundreds of dollars that didn’t need to be put out. So grateful to you for sharing…be blessed and take care!!!

Thank you. My dishwasher would indiscriminately sound as if the door opened 24/7 for months. I tried to start one day & nothing. Figured the switch was bad, found one local & then found this video which confirmed the switch was bad (owners manual part of the video). Thank you very much.

Before you all go this far down the rabbit hole, please try unplugging the connector from the bottom of the control panel that leads to the upper touch panel. Clean with CRC electronic spray cleaner (both male and female ends) and replug it in. This connection leads to intermittent power issues with this model.

I've done the same repair on an older model GE. I ordered the part off of Amazon and saved myself a ton of cash. I have also done a washing machine "latch bypass" to cut off the drum spin safety feature. I have no kids in the house, only adults and the machine wouldn't work without an expensive new board. The bypass took three minutes and cost nothing to do. Machine worked great for years, until I bought all new appliances for my new house. Most of these simple repairs are on KZitem.

Interestingly for mine, it was not showing the error code (flashing lights) so I ruled the door switch out. I saw many other potential causes/cures but none of them worked either. I decided to cut the power to it for a few minutes and after I turned it back on and hit start, then the start light and the light on the front of the door started flashing. I held the Select Cycle and Start buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds and got the same flashing lights, so I'll be ordering a new door switch post haste. Thank you very much for the very detailed video. You save me a bunch of money and aggravation, which is appreciated beyond measure right now.

I have an even cheaper fix: since the latch is apparently slightly worn down from usage, and the door, when closed, isn't being detected as closed, I placed a piece of electrical tape around the triangular door piece on the door which makes the two parts slightly more snug. And it worked. Now when it closes, the two sides "see" each other.

@@bulldog217831 Update: the tape "fix" only lasted a short while. I finally had to replace the switch anyhow, but even then it failed again after a couple months. A repair guy came out and said the circuit board inside the top of the door wasn't detecting the one on the bottom, so it was seeing the door as "open." He couldn't get it to work. A replacement of both would have cost half the price of a new washer, so I opted for a new washer in the end. Bummer.

I suggested to another commenter to trace the wire back and spray wire terminal connections with electrical contact cleaner available from Lowes/Home Depot. It fixed his problem! The connections at the main board oxidize or corroded. Be sure to turn power off etc before doing this. Hope this helps!

@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
Ай бұрын
The next step would be to follow the wire that goes to the switch back to the main board, make sure no damage to the wires. If ok, then Check to make sure the connections for the wiring aren’t corroded or oxidized at the main board. If corroded you can try contact cleaner available from any reputable hardware supplier. Hope this helps you!

From what you have described, my first thought would be the main board as the culprit. Possibly could be the user interface board (buttons board less likely but a possibility). An electrical meter will be needed to confirm which has failed. Hope this helps!

Great video. Any idea on how to "get around" the switch and trick the dishwasher into thinking the door is closed? If the part failed once, it will fail again.
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD

Not really a good way to bypass on that particular model. It can be done but would require other components that would probably cost as much as a spare switch and take twice as long to perform!

Update: I figured it out. My GE dishwasher is a different model vs. the one in the video. I replaced the switch and it worked for 6 months or so, then it acted up again. I took the 3 wires and connected them together with a wago connector. (I had nothing to lose as it wouldn't start). I checked the voltage and tested my theory by jumping the wires in the existing connector before I cut anything. It started without any problem. ***Note: with these 3 wires connected all the time, the dishwasher won't "know" when the door is open or closed. Do this at your own risk. @@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD

Update: This has been working fine for over 6 months. I do have an on-off switch in the outlet to disconnect the dishwasher when it isn't in use versus unplugging each time. As stated before, do this at your own risk.

120v Power comes in to main board first on side of the washer. Then main board sends control power out to other board/displays. Could even be the touch panel board/display on door. Hope this helps!

This is a very common issue unfortunately. Sorry that you’re having issues again. It is surprising that you only got 3 months out of a new part. Any power surges or outages, thunderstorms etc to your residence recently? Trying to think of something that may have caused premature failure…. then again could be issues with the main board too. Hard to say. Good luck in getting it fixed up again!
