Worked great. Didn't seem like it would stretch enough, but it did. I had to brace my knee against the drum to pull the wheel hard enough for it to go on. No more squeaking!

it worked for me when i used 2 zip ties instead of one. because the new belt was so much smaller than the old one, the zip tie kept slipping under. two kept it right where it needed to be.

Slack over the top works better than underneath. May need a barrier between the belt and sprocket right before drive shaft. This also helps keep the belt on the drive shaft as the belt is coming in from the top. Got this idea from another person in the comments.

So, I just tried replacing my belt on my GE washing machine. According to applicance Parts, my washing machine (GSRE5600K2WW) is using a WH01X10302 drive belt. I tried to put it on with your technique. I just can't! The belt, once it reached half way to the big "wheel", is so tight that it snap out of the tie-rap. It's not even big enough to fit only on the big wheel. I tried to stretch it but to no avail. Part on the belt itself says 175D5131P003...

"the belt may be a little small"???? No joke... My belt is sooo hard to get onto the pulley! Any other ideas for stretching the belt? The zip tie has helped me keep it on, but still struggling to attach the belt fully.
@repairclinic

It seems almost impossible but it will go on. The best way is to zip tie it on the transmission pulley first then get it around the motor pulley and use the large pulley to pull the belt all the way around. It takes a lot of effort to get it around but it will go.

Thanks for the helpful vid. Would like to add an addendum mirroring some of the other comments here: 1) This video makes this look easy. It's not. Not sure what belt you have that is pre stretched out, but the one that matches this serial number does not go on easily. 2) Use two zip ties. One did not hold mine well. 3) Wear gloves! because.... 4) It took me 20 minutes of prodding and stretching the belt while hanging upside down, AND I ended up with some cuts on my hand since the main rotor is actually kind of sharp. 5) Go to law school so you have enough money to hire someone eise to make these repairs around your house. Thanks again for the vid.

pro tip: if the belt is really snug, use tie straps in stages, so get the belt on the tub wheel at least half ways and then use more tie straps to partially stretch the belt. youll find that you ll get a bit farther in the installation each time, then it will easily go on.

After trying everything in this deceptive video and some of the comments I tried to do it a different way out of frustration and *BAM* I got it in under a minute. It is as simple as instead of putting the belt on big wheel in the back first, put it on the small wheel first and then reach back and put it on the big wheel. You will find that you can turn the big wheel much, much easier and it will snap on! But BEWARE: don't have your fingers there where the belt goes on.

A couple of comments based on my personal experience tonight, replacing my belt. It is possible to do this without the tool all of these videos feature. You do want to use a zip tie, pulled as tight as you can to hold the belt on the large pulley. Remember to have the smooth side of the belt out (exposed) and the grooved side against the pulley surface. Also, my new belt was a full inch smaller in circumference than the old, stretched belt I was replacing! As you rotate the large pulley to seat the belt, it will want to roll off the edge of both the large and small pulleys. Having the zip tie holding it on one spot allows you to use your hands to keep it on both pulleys as you rotate them. One other observation: I was certain that I got the wrong belt initially because of both the size and the width. My old belt was 1/8 inch narrower than the new one, and didn't cover the drive pulley completely. That was because the bottom of it was shredded into tiny pieces in a pile on the bottom tray of the machine. Also, the number on the old belt does not match the replacement part number. I hope this helps you. Good luck!

The replacement belts circumference compared to what it has to go on is very very different. (a lot smaller!) The zip tie method looks great but the amount of tension I have had to place on the pulley has sliced 9 of the zip ties as the edge of the pulley is extremely sharp. This method does not work for me whatsoever. I have not been able to get the supposed new belt on my washing mashing. GE model WJSR4160G1WW - Replacement belt part number (apparently is..) WH01X10302. Dosent fit. Im a 230lb fit Landscaper with tools and this thing refuses to go on.

I replaced the belt on my General Electric Washer, its been the best washer for us. I am a wife who took on this challenge, it will not work with only one zip tie!!! You must use two zip ties that I put approx. 5 inches apart from each other on the left side, I pulled the large pulley as hard as I could with both hands to get the belt on. I turned it around several times to make sure it was secure on the pulley and then I removed the zip ties, and then the tool over the small pulley. I cannot imagine doing this without the tool that is offered to purchase with the belt. I watched many videos about how they did this with only one zip tie and when I tried it there was no way it was going on, it twisted the belt and I was afraid that it was going to tear the belt. They must have edited those videos to make it look simple, or they re-used a belt already stretched out from being on the washer already for it to go on so easy. Hope this helps!

No. This job took my 5 minutes. Put Tie the belt on the large wheel and spin it. When you experience tension pull counter clockwise hard and it will stretch. Remove it and you're done. The only thing the tool helps with is to ensure the belt is aligned on the small wheel (ie not too high not too low) but, you can adjust easily afterwards. This is one of the easiest DIY I have ever done. Unfortunately some have problems but I don't understand why.

If the Belt is not too worn out and its just slipping a little bit you can use firestone belt dressing. Not a permanent fix but may bring it back to life for a month or two. Stick a screw driver in the safety latch. Let the motor spin the belt and spray your dressing on it as it spins. After a few minutes the dressing dries on the belt and makes it stick to the drive wheel better with just enough slippage.

I was clueless as to how to get this belt on, I thought I was sold the wrong belt.It's not like installing a belt on the the older style machines that use belts. I was about to haul this machine off to the scrap yard, but then I saw your video, thanks. I found it impossible to install it the way you do, you are definitely skilled at doing this. I added the helpful tips below for people who simply cannot get the belt installed the way it was done in the video: Access was much easier for me to lay the washer on it's back then remove all the screws holding on the bottom plate. 4 screws that hold the rear feet on will need to be removed before it's laid on it's back. With the floor panel out of the way it's much easier to tackle this job. I didn't use the installation tool with the flange so I pushed the belt all the way to the top of the motor shaft because the belt will travel down the shaft as you turn the larger pulley. First I put the belt on the smaller pulley or shaft, bring the belt as far as you can and use the ties like in the video. I noticed the belt twists in such a way that I was concerned that the large pulley would cut or damage the belt so in that area I put a rag between the pulley and the belt. This installation is not easy the first time around, it takes a lot of trial and error, but if you did this 3 times in a row you could get very good at it and install the belt in seconds.
