Fitted DMs with yellow lenses to my GS as DRLs. Brilliant! When filtering between traffic I can see drivers noticing me much more. Surprised more bikers don't use yellow as DRLs as they are much more noticeable than white lights.

I will get round to fitting them at some point! I think the D2’s will be going on my Kove 450 Rally and the DM’s will be going on the CRF. All I need is time! 🤣

Aha. They are expensive. And so many cheaper options out there too. Compared to some OEM spots, they are in a similar ballpark. I guess it comes down to how bright they are, will they last, do you need them and how deep your pockets are!

Thank you! I had the spots before I had the crash bars, and the DM vs D2 had made me wonder what the ‘real’ differences were. Now I have the crash bars but am not sure if I’ll keep them, so I’ve ordered some fork mounts as a plan B. Install video to follow.

I have the D2 had them in my previous road bike and now transferred in the 300 can t be more happy really bright if the main bulb goes wrong you got really a safe alternative I use them with the wide lens as the spot one is too much and annoys other drivers For me worth every penny especially because you can keep even if you swap bike

Thanks Silvio. Can I ask where you installed them on your 300? I was thinking of putting them on the crash bars, but I'm now thinking they'd be better on the forks (and I take the crash bars off...)

Thanks for the informative intro to the riding lights. Looking forward to your review of how they actually work. I always ride with my high beam on during the day, precisely to be seen better by other motorists. I’m on the fence about getting the crash bars for my Rally, however, space on the handlebars is getting crowded. Happy Trails

Thanks. I had meant to get the spots on my bike ages ago, but with the summer and other things, it fell down the list. I was out on the CRF in the dark the other day, and it definitely needs more illumination, so it’s going back up the list. The DM are very discreet, which I quite like and I agree it might better suit the RS. Ride safe.

Seem to be hughly overengineered wiring for 1.6 amps. The big difference between them, as far as I can see is the much bigger heat sinking, which will run cooler especially at lower air speeds considering they draw thew same current. Probably not a biggie in a cold climate but in warmer places will extend the life of the circuit boards of the driver ( major cause of failure of leds). In fact the smaller one MAY have the supply with a bigger gap between waves, so actual real light output will be lower and less useful at speed ( bigger gap travelled between actual light pulse)
@PeakMotorcycles

Hi Greg, they do, though I did wonder about mounting them on the forks, and for that they need to cope with the flex of the steering without fatigue of the wires? Thanks for the insights on cooling too. Maybe I’ll fit the D2’s after all!

Nice video, Andre. Funny that I've never used the two additional spotlights on my second- (third- fourth-) hand Transalp 600. I don't ride that often at night ;-) Yes, more lights equals more visibility in traffic. But actually, I'm mostly on small country lanes, asphalt and gravel, sort of Enduro hiking. Taking things easy. Whereas on my Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 I'm substantially faster - so I would need more light on this sportsbike. Food for thought from Günter, Nürnberg

I have them on my GS and leave them on all the time. It does look a bit like a Christmas tree, but they are very visible, even in daylight. Not sure I need them on the CRF300 either, but I’d like to try them.

Hi Yves, not yet, but a few folks are asking so it will be coming. I took the OM crash bars off the bike, so it’ll be fork mounts. I have two to compare, some of the silly expensive Denali ones (I found a second hand set) and also some eBay fork mounts from China.
@yvesjodogne1956

@@PeakMotorcycles Why did you take the OM crash bars off? About mounts for the spotlights some people have mounted them where the side reflectors were attached on the fork braces.
@PeakMotorcycles
Жыл бұрын
@@yvesjodogne1956 I found in the video that the crash bars were heavier than I thought they’d be, and it’s weight high up so not ideal. It didn’t affect the handling too much, so I was going to keep them. At the ABR festival there were two riders with them who had low speed offs where the crash bars hit soft ground and bent the upper mounting points and the dash tower. I know OM test them on hard surfaces where there is a harder initial impact and maybe the bike slides, but after getting the feedback from two riders about the tower damage, I decided to take mine off. It was at around that time that Kodama Composites made the carbon side protection, so I switched to that. Later on I also found that to change the spark plug (or even to access it if the bike was waterlogged) would need the bars to come off. This is easy enough to do in a workshop, but I’m not sure I’d want to do it on a trail beside a river. As for the reflector mounting points, thank you! I will take a look at that. For now I have a bike weekend away (probably on my new BSA) then two weekends to switch my GS from a Rally bike back to a tourer for a trip to Corsica and Sardinia, then a week in Colombia, two days at home and a week in Tennessee visiting the tail of the dragon. I think this means that the spotlights won’t be going on the bike until July or August I’m afraid.

Done, but it’s a UK seller, so local options if you’re not in the UK are more likely to be suitable. I also had a 10% off offer from them which helped too. I’ve put the links to both the D2 and DM and also to the global dealers page on the Denali website

Hi Tom, I haven’t put them on yet, but on my GS they seem ok. Someone else mentioned that they had them on with the lenses for the widest beam possible and this was ok for riding lights. I’m away at the moment but will be back next week so will see if I can get them fitted then.

Hi, not on the bike yet, it’s light until after 9pm here so it’s dropped down the priority list I’m afraid. I expect I’ll sort them out later in the summer. Curiosity. I wanted to know if the Arrow was quieter. It’s a lot more expensive but also lighter, road legal in the UK, emissions compliant, and if it’s quieter too, then it’s just a question of is it worth it.

Additional question How many watts are each one rated to or the Lux value please ?
@PeakMotorcycles
2 жыл бұрын
Each pod is a 10W CREE XPL Hi intensity LED and raw lumens is 2190. Lumens is normally the source measurement and Lux is the target measurement, so Lux depends on how you angle it and which lens you put in and is normally measured where the light hits.. 1 Lux = 1 lumen/square metre. So if you pick a lens and angle of the spots so they light up an area 5m wide x 10m deep, that’s 50sqm which would be on average around 44 Lux. If you focus it to be 3m x 5m, then for the same lumens. It’s only 15sqm so around 150lux. Let me know if I’m not making sense. I might not be!
