Just what I needed. Very easy to follow and some great added weight bearing tips. Thank you!

Hip belts help carry heavier loads and waist belts do not ride on your hips. Waist belts are only intended to stabalize the pack and they ride higher on the body and not on your hips. Waist belts are intended more for smaller, lighter, day packs.

I don't understand why they don't come as standard like most backpacks. It's the only thing stopping me from buying a Goruck.

Because they let their tac and fitness bro image go to their head. They're terrible values, you have to pay $40 before shipping for hip pads and ~12-15 for a sternum strap which come standard from everyone else including other American makers. Just paid full price for a GR2 and it's laughably plain.

Is there a reason instructions can’t be included? Trying to view this on a phone. Impossible to see. I’m going to end up sending this whole over priced book bag back.

Any idea why these don't come in smaller lengths? I have a 32" waist and it is cinched all the way in.

Great explanation. I was wondering why a military youtuber explained the belt's correct position one way and the usual trekker youtubers another

Lower the ruck - great idea unless you are 6'4" and then there is no way you can get the ruck to fit correctly. I end up having to connect the belt to the last loop only so all the weight is only supported by the bottom loop on the side of the ruck. I then put an aftermarket belt over that to increase the width of the belt even further so I can get it down to my hips. Someday Goruck might offer a longer set of shoulder straps or maybe I can find someone else to make up a set for me. I love my GR1, just wish it would fit correctly.

Yeah I think it's obvious the GR1 wasn't designed with the hip belt in mind, it's more of an afterthought. From day 1 it's supposed to be high on your shoulder. Jason said on the blog that they are designing new bags for next year, maybe those will utilize it better.

Hiking ultralight actually shoulder carry look at hmg, z pack no real frame or load straps, but backpacking and hunting normally load 70% on the hips and you can carry weight much more efficiently you’re lowering the center of gravity and your lower body is much stronger. I’d say anything over 30lbs you should be loading the hips.

thanks for the video, I just got my new goruck and wanted to make sure I knew how to set it up. Question. there are two webbings on the side for the hip belt. I noticed you used the inner most webbing. When, or would you use the outside webbing for your hip belt attachment?

The hip belt straps are NOT sewn into the slot, you CAN extract the webbing from the slot. Do you want to ruck with the hip belt, do you REALLY want to ruck with it? If so, then you'll learn how to handle those straps. Yes, it's difficult at first, but you'll get it. I'm speaking from experience.

My son needed two shoulder operations from several deployments in ME due to the military making them carry all the weight of armor , loaded magazines, etc . on the shoulders. Common problem, too . Wears out your shoulder sockets . Torn rotator cuff . I'm just saying , get the hip belt, and follow his advice .

Exactly. Should sit at belly button level and snug so you create internal pressure while breathing.
