My solo play through of Gears of War TBG, Emergence Mission using two Cogs. This game is OOP, which is so so very sad.
BGG Score: 7.5/10
Pros:
- amazing port of the GoW video game to the table top
- the cover system is very thematic
- full coop and the mechanics (e.g guard) really allow for a cooperative experience
- multipurpose use of Order cards
- component quality is great and the minis are very detailed
- Locust AI deck is very good, maintains tension and is unforgiving (mostly)
- tracking enemy health (wounds) is streamlined
- feels just like the video game
- great replay value (random map layout each time)
- easy to create custom missions and scale difficulty
- Horde mode
Cons:
- card hand as life may not appeal to some
- dice combat (attack + defense rolls) may not appeal to some
- some missions can hit 90+min
- multi level missions can take up a lot of table space
- it has Locust enemy cards but no minis for them (eg. Grinder)
Personal verdict:
Woo! Yeah baby! Recommended if you can find a 2nd hand copy for a good price.
